Stuck for (Scottish but not necessarily) boy name.

DC2 is due in a few weeks time (don't know what we're having) and I'm stuck for a boys name.DH has named DS mainly because he rejected EVERY SINGLE NAME that I had on my list.As the result both of DS's names came from DH.I agreed on DS's names because I was fed up with the fact that all of the names chosen by me were rejected and I had nothing against the names that DH offered (I neither liked them or disliked them, they suit DS so no regrets here).

Now I said to DH that it's my turn to name DC2 and because I didn't make him any problems naming DS I'd expect him to exchange the same courtesy to me.He was a bit taken aback but tough.

Names that were on my list before DS was born (all vetoed by DH):

Allister/Alasdair
Calum
Colin
Conrad
Craig
Felix
Fergus
Finlay
Graham
Grant
Gregor
Harold
Kenneth
Liam
Logan
Magnus
Marcus
Murray
Neil/Niall
Robin
Ross

Names we can't use:

Alexander
Andrew
Angus/Innes
Ian/Iain
William
finishing with "an" e.g. Jonathan,Tristan

If anybody could give me some suggestions I'd be really grateful as I look at boys names every couple of days and can't find anything that i really like. Many thanks :)

Hedgehog Your comment made me wonder, so I looked it up and there were indeed quite a few baby girls named after Scottish islands in 2013: Ailsa, Harris, Gigha, Iona, Islay, Rona, Skye and Tiree. There were also girls named after other Scottish places - Brora, Corran, Elgin, Waverley - and after more distant locations, including Eire, Erin, Italia, London, Texas and Rome.
Fascinating: www.gro-scotland.gov.uk/files2/stats/popular-forenames/2013/babiesnames-2013-t4.pdf

If you or DH like mountains, could you go for Ben? Wink

soontobeslendergirl · 30/05/2014 11:40

I had to veto Ben in my house as OH was insisting on spelling it Beinn.

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 30/05/2014 12:33

Does it matter what he vetoed or rejected with DS it's your turn this time.

So from your original list Niall, Finlay and Ross?

mollysmummy1970 · 30/05/2014 12:43

I like Arran and Ruaridh. Both scottish and fairly normal.

mollysmummy1970 · 30/05/2014 12:43

Sorry just read you can't have a name ending in an, apologies!

durness · 31/05/2014 01:47

Stewart, Murdo, Murdoch, Severin..?

BaldHedgehog · 31/05/2014 07:30

Durness? I've been there but never got to Smoo Cave or Cape Wrath :)

Donkeys, i had a look at my first list and tried to choose something but was put off the first time with DH refusal and now every name I look at doesn't feel right. Sigh.

Thank you very much for the suggestions, will have a look at the names again and again and again

Feels sometimes so stupid when the name i like isthe name of PIL's dog or a neighbour who gives us a grief.
