Old fashioned but uncommon boys names please!

Hello, we already have a Mary and love it because it is old-fashioned but not in the top 100 baby names at the mo. We have just discovered we are expecting a boy and are stumped!! I'm a teacher so I really don't want a super-popular name... Suggestions please!

Well I have an Eddie (which we love and haven't met many, if any others), but know that some people aren't keen on shortened names as actual names.

I work in a hospital so have good supply of old fashioned names! One this week which has been a grower on me is Neville. Nev is so cute!! Of the Stanley ilk! Congratulations

I have a Laurence and haven't met another. People have commented that it's old-fashioned, I just thought it was a good strong name.

It's strange how regional these things are isn't it but many of these names I have taught at least one of recently. I'm in an infant school in Sheffield.

John (I think the most obvious equivalent of Mary)

Most of the 'classic' names that were popular when we were young - John, James, David, Daniel, Peter etc - are no longer that popular, and could be due a comeback

I automatically associate the name William with Mary. Probably the old royal connection. Not exactly uncommon though.

A lot of these names are actually quite popular. I don't want to look like I'm picking on anyone so I am just using the post above (when I started to write). Sorry, Squeezed.

James and William are top 10. Daniel is top 20. Henry is top 30. Edward is top 40. Michael, Arthur and David are top 60. Charles is top 70.

Peter and John are outside the top 100.

Ooh what about Nigel or Norman

You don't hear of many boys called Richard or Andrew these days.

Stephen and Andrew are both classics and outside top 100. And both with easy nn.

Raymond, Donald (Donnie is cute) Or Reggie.
