Am I being silly?

I have fallen in love with the name Bloom for a girl, I like flower names but they all seem very popular. Am I being ridiculous or is it a suitable name, I need a voice of reason! (Please say I'm not!)

My personal opinion is that if you need to ASK if it's daft, it most likely is.

Loverofpeas · 23/05/2014 20:12

Blossom is far nicer

Marnierose · 23/05/2014 22:01

No I would take doctor seriously regardless of their name in all honestly. But I do know for a fact in certain professions having a more 'unusual' name may put you at a disadvantage.

alita7 · 24/05/2014 01:41

I really like valentina, dp doesn't.

Nothing wrong with bloom as a middle name ' Valentina Bloom, but by itself it's not something that could be used as a name and not sound silly, think tree, wave, cloud, happy...

But maybe save it for a pet?

Salazar · 24/05/2014 02:00

Use it as a middle name! I love out there middle names!

Delphiniumsblue · 24/05/2014 07:14

I know many people with 'out there' middle names that they try and keep a dark secret- don't do it to them.

SpottieDottie · 24/05/2014 07:16

Sorry, but I don't think yours is the voice of reason but you're allowed to think of silly names when pregnant! Blossom is much nicer, or Posy.

Howmuch101 · 24/05/2014 18:14

If I have another girl it will be Delia and I have a Primrose.

TheTruffleHunter · 24/05/2014 18:17

I have a Valentina and she is Vale for nn - keeping the Italian style!

squoosh · 24/05/2014 18:21

How is Vale pronounced truffle? Vallah?

TheTruffleHunter · 24/05/2014 18:57

Kind of like Valley but with a short 'ey' iyswim!

Frikadellen · 24/05/2014 19:12

I like Bloom I think Blossom is hideous.

bouncingbelle · 25/05/2014 02:47

I like it for a quirky middle name.

Valentina Bloom (Leena for short :) )

LizLimone · 25/05/2014 03:00

'Blume' is 'flower' in German so maybe if you were in Germany Bloom would work.

For some reason, it's making me think of. 'algal bloom' though. Maybe because we don't really use 'bloom' to mean flower in English anymore apart from archaic usage.

BOFster · 25/05/2014 04:42

I think it's a perfectly lovely name, actually.

You have to balance it though with your surname. Bloom Jones- nah. Bloom Billingham- fine. It will only really work with a multi-syllabled surname.

AberdeenAngusina · 25/05/2014 07:44

It makes me think of James Joyce's Molly Bloom.

youlookbeautifultonight · 25/05/2014 09:22

Liz I actually prefer that spelling actually it looks more like a 'real' name iykwim

I became obsessed with the name ' Bliss' in one of my pgs.....!! She became 'Bess'. I think I was just on my (hormonal) way to Bess, but got distracted!

Having said that Bloom is a lovely image so no reason why you shouldn;t use it. For safety's sake (just incase you go off it a bit) might be good to use as a middle?

Valentina and Eve have a different fee to Bloom, so would be a very beautiful contrast in my opinion.

Good luck!

devoncreamtea · 25/05/2014 11:29

feel not fee!
