I have fallen in love with the name Bloom for a girl, I like flower names but they all seem very popular. Am I being ridiculous or is it a suitable name, I need a voice of reason! (Please say I'm not!)

Bloom is not good, sorry! I love Valentina or Valentine though, I wanted to call our DS Valentine but DP was dead against it :(

Bloom is a totally ridiculous name. I don't mind Posy. What about Violet if you like flower names.

I knew a lady called Bluma once - it's Yiddish - and she hated it so much she changed her name. Bloom is just as bad IMO.
Valentina is ok but she may end up with Val or Tina as a nickname so it depends how you feel about that

I would absolutely use Bloom as a mn. Sounds silly with my married surname, but I would otherwise use it in the middle in a heartbeat. That said, I'd never consider it as a given first name.

Eva Bloom Surname sounds quite nice but a bit like twosurnames together (which hides the wackiness that is Bloom as a name)

Valentina is OK but you do need to realise it will, most likely, be Val or Tina.

I have just googled nicknames for valentina and there are lots of options - Valli, Vina, Vallen for example. If you are using a pretty nickname its very unlikely people are just going to start using Val or Tina

Valentine is lovely, but Tina is a horrible nn, IMHO.
I went through childhood with a name which was shortened by everyone to Tina and I truly hated it. As soon as I was 18 I went by my full name, very unusual, but at least not a name that was popularly given to poodles and GSDs in the sixties.
Yes, I do still feel strongly about this, apparently Blush.

I think the idea of Bloom is sweet, it conjures up very pretty feminine images. However it would be hard to live with if it was your name.
I think as a middle name it could work.
It makes me think of Bluebell too. Valentina Bluebell!

If you want a flower name, have you had a look at some of the less popular ones? How about Leilani (various nn possibilities), or Jasmine, Iris, Jacinta or Heather? Or maybe Marguerite?

Another vote for Valentina. I probably wouldn't take Dr Bloom very seriously in RL. I do like a name that looks good on a cv.

I would assume that a Doctor Bloom had the same qualifications as a Dr Valentina.
