Hi name experts :) sadly my Dhs brother died suddenly last week of a massive brain haemorrhage . We have dd3 due in 2 weeks and dh would like to give her a middle name which honours his brother . His brothers name was Ian so not the easiest to come up with a nice female version.
Googling has come up with 2 options both of which I'm not sure how to pronounce and I'm not sure I like
Ianna
Ianthe

Her first name will be Elise and surname is Quinn .

All suggestions gladly accecpted !!!

I really like Ianthe

Did he have a middle name?

EverybodysStressyEyed · 28/04/2014 14:29

sorry for your loss

FatalCabbage · 28/04/2014 14:30

Think outside the box. Did he have a middle name, a hobby, a favourite animal/flower/bird? Is there a name you could use that means something like memory or niece or solace?

Sorry for your loss.

FatalCabbage · 28/04/2014 14:31

Ianthe is eye-ann-th-ee, very pretty. Doesn't really sound anything like Ian though.

BillyBanter · 28/04/2014 14:32

Ianthe is pronounced eye-anth-ay

I think Elise Ianthe is quite nice.

you can listen from the link on here.

Forago · 28/04/2014 14:33

Sorry to hear this.

I think Elise Ianthe Quin sounds great and I don't see why you cant choose to pronounce it more ee-an-thee

LeftyLoony · 28/04/2014 14:35

Ian is the Gaelic form of John. The feminine firm of John is Jane which gives another option. I do like Ianthe though.

Sorry for your loss x

ChallahBaloo · 28/04/2014 14:35

What about Nia? Same letters just rearranged.

Bowlersarm · 28/04/2014 14:35

Iona?

GooseyLoosey · 28/04/2014 14:36

Sian? Both are ultimately derived from John (I think).

JustAboutAdeqeuate · 28/04/2014 14:38

I'm sorry about your BIL.

How about using it at the end of the name? Vivian/Jillian, for example. Elise Vivian Quin is very pretty.

OddBoots · 28/04/2014 14:39

How would you feel about a name that ends in Ian such as Lorrian, , Jillian, Rhian, Lílian, Vivian or Sian?

I've just found a site which states "Ian" means God is Gracious, as does Gianna, what about that?

WiiUnfit · 28/04/2014 14:50

OP, these all have "God is Gracious" meanings, there's 305 on the list, hope you find one you like! babynames.merschat.com/index.cgi?function=Search&meaning=God%20is%20Gracious

HRHQueenMe · 28/04/2014 14:52

Sofianna
Ian is in the middle!

SunnyInterval · 28/04/2014 15:21

Wow girls thanks so much for so many ideas already ! I really like some of the options :) his second name was Charles and his passion in life was rally driving a (very fast) green mini :) I think using the meaning of the name god is gracious and picking a female one is a good idea but dh would like something more obvious that stands out as Ian

nyldn · 28/04/2014 15:41

I'm sorry for your loss.

Since it's the middle name, I'd honestly just use Ian and not bother trying to make it more feminine. It's a lovely tribute.

Bowlersarm · 28/04/2014 15:46

Just a quick response to want nyldn has suggested, I have an obvious boys middle name and I hate it. I dislike it so much I don't use it anymore, so I wouln't do that to her OP.

Bowlersarm · 28/04/2014 15:47

What about Charlotte for Charles?

Morgause · 28/04/2014 15:50

Ianna is Celtic.

ItsWarmerInTheSouth · 28/04/2014 15:50

What about Minnie? After his beloved car? Elise Minnie?
My DS has a middle name from the name of the street I lived in when I was young and reminds me of a very very happy childhood.

Megrim · 28/04/2014 15:54

Ianira or Ianeira is the name of a nymph associated with Persephone.

abitofanangrybird · 28/04/2014 15:55
