DC3/DD1 due to arrive in 6 weeks, after 4MC. I stupidly thought choosing a girl's name would be easy.

DH has come up with Faith (which I like, but bit worried we are 'saddling' her with expectations - we are Christian) Ivy (not keen) Emily (an Emma in the family already) Lucy, Abigail, Martha and Imogen. This is after months of him suggesting patently ridiculous names, so quite chuffed he has come up with something sensible.

I really wanted Miriam Iris but he hates both. Next on my list is Elizabeth nn Libby.

We both like Hannah, Charlotte and Naomi but ruled out due to close family/friends.

Surname is R so no names starting or ending with R/er. Thoughts? Other suggestions?

Of your list I really like Faith. It's simple but elegant.

Hope
Constance/Connie

Or
Esther
Ruth

Caroline
Sylvia
Jemima
Anna
Penelope
Alice
Felicity
Clara
Hope

Good luck! Smile

Sorry baking! just saw your caveat about "Rs" - scrub Clara from my list Blush

HolidayCriminal · 16/04/2014 15:19

Faith is gorgeous, often wished I'd chosen it (we are not remotely religious).

ThatBloodyWoman · 16/04/2014 15:21

Martha is beautiful.

Clargo55 · 16/04/2014 15:21

What about Grace Elizabeth?

Faith is a lovely name.

My favorite there is Abigail.

DenzelWashington · 16/04/2014 15:25

I like Fatih.
I also like Constance and Prudence.

DenzelWashington · 16/04/2014 15:26

Damn! Faith, I meant to say.
Don't call her Fatih, whatever you do.

minipie · 16/04/2014 15:33

I like Emily, and don't think Emma/Emily is a problem - they are different names IMO. Lucy is pretty too.

How about:

Elise
Marianne
Holly
Serena
Tessa

bakingtins · 16/04/2014 15:44

Fatih Grin

I like both Esther and Clara but don't work with the surname, too much of a tongue twister.
Rosalie I knew 3 sisters growing up who were Faith, Hope and Patience always felt Patience got the raw end of the deal but no chance of any more after this one for us so no need to worry about a 'virtue' theme.

Love Martha. And Marianne or Elise as suggested by PP.

Marielle is nice too. Or Elsa, or Mary.

bakingtins · 16/04/2014 15:57

I think Ruth is ruled out by the 'R' thing as well.
We both like Anna but a cousin is Hannah, I think that's too close.

Thank you all for the suggestions and comments, keep them coming please.

I have a Martha. It's a beautiful name and means 'lady'. I'm slightly biased.

HeyJules · 16/04/2014 15:58

I just love Emily. I know it's popular but it's always been a fave. Was in my final 3 if DS was a DD. Along with Helena and Alexandra. I also think Emi is a lovely nn.
I really like Imogen too. Not keen on Libby, Martha or Faith.

Lucy is sweet, as is Abigail :)

Emily is by far my fave from your list, then Imogen :)

bakingtins · 16/04/2014 22:04

I think Martha is too similar to my DS2 (Matthew) will cause confusion with post etc if they share an initial though didn't put me off Miriam

Doesn't seem like anyone is sharing the love for Elizabeth? I know it's hardly original, but there are so many lovely NNs....

Wishfulmakeupping · 16/04/2014 22:07

I like Elizabeth but I would go for Betsy as a nn.
I like Abigail and Emily from your list too. I dislike Faith it's not my cup of tea at all but if you like it go for it

Only1scoop · 16/04/2014 22:10

Elizabeth is classic and beautiful.

Miriam is a gorgeous name.... Start twisting his arm....Wink

All the best x

BlueStarsAtNight · 16/04/2014 22:12

I love Abigail and Lucy from your list. Faith I like but probably as a middle name (bit too virtuous for a first name for me).

I'm not a fan of Elizabeth, I just find it's bit dull I'm afraid, despite some lovely nn's. How about Francesca?

abitofanangrybird · 16/04/2014 22:14

Faith is lovely, it was my first choice for a girl (except we had 2 boys). I have only met one Faith before, in the year below me at school in the early 80's. She was a really nice girl Smile

DenzelWashington · 16/04/2014 22:24

Verity?

CarriMarie · 17/04/2014 01:05

Imogen Faith.

saffronwblue · 17/04/2014 01:08

Faith is lovely. She would spend her first few years with other small dc calling her 'Faif'.
Faith Elizabeth
Emily Faith
Honor Elizabeth
