DC3/DD1 due to arrive in 6 weeks, after 4MC. I stupidly thought choosing a girl's name would be easy.

DH has come up with Faith (which I like, but bit worried we are 'saddling' her with expectations - we are Christian) Ivy (not keen) Emily (an Emma in the family already) Lucy, Abigail, Martha and Imogen. This is after months of him suggesting patently ridiculous names, so quite chuffed he has come up with something sensible.

I really wanted Miriam Iris but he hates both. Next on my list is Elizabeth nn Libby.

We both like Hannah, Charlotte and Naomi but ruled out due to close family/friends.

Surname is R so no names starting or ending with R/er. Thoughts? Other suggestions?

Absolutely love Abigail. Also really like Imogen and Martha.

Abigail Faith and Imogen Faith would both be beautiful.

Faith would be fine as a standalone I think. I know a little girl from a very committed Christian family called Grace. Other than piping up 'that's me!' several times during a sermon once I don't think she's found it a burden! Grin

Miriam is absolutely lovely. I'm not so keen on Elizabeth.

You both seem to have quite classic taste.
How about:
Annabelle, Amy, Beatrice, Bethany, Claire, Catherine, Edith, Esme, Eloise, Erin, Felicity, Francesca, Florence, Georgina, Grace, Harriet, Isabel, Jessica, Julia, Juliette, Katie, Louisa, Lydia, Madeleine, Matilda, Miranda, Mary, Natalie, Natasha, Olivia, Philippa, Phoebe, Sarah, Sophie, Sophia, Sylvia, Susannah, Tabitha, Thea, Victoria, Violet, Vanessa, Zoe, Zara

Elizabeth Lucy would be lovely, or Elizabeth Faith. Very sweet too. So many nn possibilities, including Ellie Lu when she's little. Your dh's list isn't half bad! I hate to think what mine might come up with if left to his own devices. Congratulations on your coming dd. Smile

Abigail is my favourite- simple and elegant, Lucy is nice too.

Thanks everyone for your feedback Smile

manic we've already had that experience when our 3 yr old shouted "that's my name!" at the top of his voice when the reading came up on screen Blush

I will mull over Faith for a few days, nice that it has mostly positive feedback but a little concerned that it is too much in a context where she'd hear the concept bandied about in sermons etc. It would be a great middle name.

Our boys have MNs after family members a few generations back but not so keen on the female family names, and did not have a relationship with the women a generation older than our mothers (died before we were born or when we were young) apart from a great aunt who was Betty (but Bertha not Elizabeth - couldn't call a child Bertha Confused )

Part of my issue is I'd pretty much had my heart set on Miriam before we talked about names, we have had so many losses that we have taken a long time to believe we might get to the stage of needing a name. I was pretty gutted when it got a flat no, I'm finding it difficult to consider other possibilities.

Miriam is just gorgeous! Went to school with one with nn Mirrie. Faith is becoming quite popular and a bit chav, I have heard "Faif" out and about and it chills...

Faith, Imogen and Lucy are my favourites from your list.
I think Faith is a little more unusual than Imogen just now.

I like Elizabeth too though not with Betsy as a nn, sounds like a fortune teller to me.
Like you, I am not keen on Ivy.

We have a little Lucy in our family. She is the most delightful, soft-hearted, kind little girl ( and no, not just me saying that!!) I love her and I love her name! I also love Amelie and Rose.
