I think I want to change my baby's name...

Her name is Greta Ivy Clementine
I want to change it to Flora Greta Clementine

She's 4 months old.
Flora was the name we had originally settled on but I changed my mind once she was born.

DD1 has a name I've never truly loved and I think I've made the same mistake again.

I'm not sure what to do Sad

DP says he's always liked Flora,and so is happy to change it Grin

But he prefers Ivy to clementine,so Flora Ivy Greta or Flora Greta Ivy?

I just changed my baby's name a fortnight ago when she was just turned 4 months. I put the new name in front of her original name and middle name. It's been a bit of an emotional roller coaster but most people have been very supportive and I'm so happy she's now got the name she should have had all along. So I advise to change it! X

I remember all those long threads, the name Rufus now reminds me of you OP! I'm sad that after all the blood, sweat and tears you out into it you now feel as though you've made the wrong decision.

I still love Greta but if you and your partner want to change it well then do it. Four months is nothing. Your baby will certainly be none the wiser.

Flora Greta Ivy Clementine P-G is almost absurdly long....

I remember your name threads. You really want to change her name and your DH is on board, so just do it. It sounds like you'll regret it if you don't.

Agree with others that Flora Ivy Greta is the best way round.

If you're getting rid of Greta as a first name, maybe you could scrap it completely and use

I followed/posted on a few of your threads too FRIG, and I'm really sorry you feel like you've not made the right choice.

There's no problem with changing it at 4 months. Have you tried calling her Flora for a while to see how it feels? Sounds obvious, but you'd want to make sure that it's 'the one' before changing.

As for initials and too many names? It really doesn't matter. Unless it spells something truly awful like PIGBAG or FATARSE or something. The more names the merrier as far as I'm concerned! Go nuts. Smile

The thread that you posted when trying to choose your DDs name was one of the first I went on when I started to visit the Baby Names section. I adored the name you finally went with and it has stuck with me all this time. So when I came into this thread and saw that you were thinking of changing it I thought 'Noooooo!'... until I saw that you were thinking of changing it to my DDs name. Smile I still think Greta Ivy Clementine is absolutely gorgeous but I think if you aren't happy with it then change it. I also think Flora Ivy Clementine sounds best. Off to add two new middle names to DDs name

have you tried using flora at home for a while to see how it feels . it may be that when you begin to use it , it immediately feels right or alternatively you may know it's not the one .
with Dd5 we changed her name at 9 months after 9 long months of name regret . 3 years on nobody can remember the name she was given at birth . when we first decided to change her name there was a name i loved which when we tried it on her didn't feel right for her even though i love the name . in the end we chose her 2nd mn which as soon as we used it fitted perfectly . A word of warning though the angst re her name didn't go immediately , i felt guilty for changing it ,i did feel daft and people did look at me as though i was mad . i also often questioned whether i'd chosen the right name and whether i should have changed it after all .3 years on it was the right decision and it no longer causes any concern.
like you we ended up with 2 mns which have similar sounds /endings and not the best combination of initials . if we had given her her new name at birth she wouldn't have been given these 2 mns but at the time we changed it i posted for advice on mumsnet and at the time there was a lady whose parents had changed her name when she was a few months old but in doing so they'd replaced one of her names with another mn for example having been abc she became cda , she still felt 30 years on that her parents had robbed her of one of her birth names . she still regretted their decision and wished that they had just added a new name to her original 3. she said she felt as if she'd lost part of her identity. maybe something to bear in mind when deciding whether to remove one of her initial birth names . it certainly influenced me when deciding whether we should ditch one of dd's original birth names
i like both names although marginally prefer Greta as it feels more unusual than flora .

We have been using Flora for 2 days now and it suits her so much better,it just clicks. Though We do trip up and call her Greta sometimes I guess that will fade.

I had chosen Greta over Flora for a number of reasons which don't seem to matter now (popularity being one of them).

What you said about middle names has struck a chord Old and I think we may now give her the absurdly long name of Flora Ivy Greta Clementine...

I'm certain people will scoff and possibly think I've lost my mind,but honestly,changing her name to one i feel suits her,matters more to me than other people's opinion.

Thanks for the shove...I'm calling the registry people in the morning. Grin

Change it to whatever you want. And, sod the initials. My sons are O.D.D obviously MIL pointed it out..... I don't think anyone gives a SH1T!

so pleased you've made a decision that's right for you ,your dh and your dd . it is horrible when you feel you've chosen the wrong name .
yes people will mock to begin with but people have very short memories . They will have forgotten she wa sanything other than Flora before you know it and she'll certainly never remember she was Greta .
Flora Ivy Greta Clementine while long is also extremely beautiful .

I have FOUR middle names. Growing up it was a source of conversation and even a little pride. Mildly amusing at the alter ( my husband has no mns at all) but otherwise I can honestly say it never bothered me. If anything it made me feel good that my mum thought my name was so important she gave me so many!
