I've already written a thread on changing my bub's name.

Just want a poll on which is preferred by the Mumsnet gang..so which would you go with,

Tabitha or Nola?

Nola

Nola is a million times better than Tabitha.

atthestrokeoftwelve · 05/04/2014 16:47

Tabitha is much better. Nola sounds very bland, like Norma, normal, Nolan sisters.

Bowlersarm · 05/04/2014 16:48

Tabitha

DramaAlpaca · 05/04/2014 16:49

Nola is lovely.

Tabitha has too many cat associations to me.

atthestrokeoftwelve · 05/04/2014 17:00

Drama- thats interesting- the cat associations make it even more endearing to me,- the daughter in the TV show Bewitched had a girl called Tabitha ( for those of us old enough to remember it)
i love it.

Nola, but I read your other thread and you have to go with what makes you and your DH happy.

My youngest is one and we were SO sure and happy with his name, but I am definately wobbling on it. I think all the time of names I like more. it's not a good feeling but for me he knows his name, everyone else knows it.....I'm resigned to keeping it the way it is. I try to remember that it is a perfectly nice name, which my DH and I picked together out of love for the child and there is no need whatsoever to change it. that helps somewhat.

Nola was on my girls list. It is lovely and not too common

good luck OP

DramaAlpaca · 05/04/2014 17:05

atthestrokeoftwelve I actually had a lovely cat called Tabitha, which is why it has such a strong association for me. I'm probably too biased because of that & shouldn't have commented on the name. I remember Bewitched as well - maybe that's where I got the name for my cat from?

I do really like Nola, though.

susiedaisy · 05/04/2014 17:08

Nola. I like it

Tabitha is a cats name IMO

williaminajetfighter · 05/04/2014 17:14

OP I think they are both lovely. I have a friend who has a DD named Nola - they call her Noli for short. I also like Tabitha and that was my 2nd option for DD1 who we named Matilda so we seem to have similar taste in names!

If you're really wobbling I would go with Tabitha and it's better known. Nola will mean a lifetime of correcting people, repeating how it should we said and spelt over the phone, having her name written incorrectly etc. it's not a deal breaker of course but something to consider.

I also think Tabitha works better across all ages.

Good luck! I am considering changing DD2's name (she is 5 months). Why we name children after the trauma of labour and sleepless nights is beyond me!!

williaminajetfighter · 05/04/2014 17:14

Sorry for the typos. Hope you got the gist of what I said.

WeAreDetective · 05/04/2014 17:16

She's been Nola for a year, so I would choose Nola!

FrankUnderwood · 05/04/2014 17:20

Nola definitelyGrin

Seminyak · 05/04/2014 17:47

Nola Nola Nola :)

Seminyak · 05/04/2014 17:48

(Kept autocorrecting to NOLA so I googled and it just came up with New Orleans pages so I don't think that's an issue!)

IsabellaRockerfeller · 05/04/2014 17:48

Nola.
Tabitha is a cat.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 05/04/2014 17:55

I prefer Tabitha, really not keen on Nola. Sounds as though it should be short for something but it isn't. I'm not keen on names that are too unusual either.

JustAfloat · 05/04/2014 18:02

Much prefer Nola.

Discobugsacha · 05/04/2014 18:14

I love Tabitha, but Nola's quite nice too. I would use it as a middle name. I think Tabitha Nola sounds good together!

mathanxiety · 05/04/2014 19:59

NOLA is short for New Orleans, Louisiana (LA is US post code for Louisiana), so imo a nice association. It's a beautiful city even after the hurricane.

YouGrateMyCheese · 06/04/2014 00:28

Nola. I can think of two films with a gorgeous female lead named Nola: Spike Lee's She's Gotta Have It and Woody Allen's Match Point. (Scarlett Johansson's Nola in Match Point is a tragic character, but she's pretty intriguing and, well, pretty!) It's a striking name.

pixiestix · 06/04/2014 01:47

Nola

NCFTTB · 06/04/2014 01:48

sunnyfriday · 06/04/2014 08:05

hedgehogy · 06/04/2014 08:24
