What do you think of the boy name Aramis?

Title says it all really . I love Dumas' work (including, of course The Three Musketeers and sequels) and think Aramis is a strong, "cool" name. But is it too much to use in real life? What do you think of when you hear Aramis? What would you think of a little boy/teen/man who introduced himself as Aramis?

Also, what middle names do you think would work well with Aramis? I feel that if you're going to go for an unusual first name, you should choose a more classic "easy to wear" middle just in case. Also, what nicknames? And sibling names would you imagine would go with Aramis?

By the way, I'm not pregnant or thinking of having children. Just got a love of unusual names! Thanks in advance guys

It just makes me think of aftershave Blush

Sorry!

Annietheacrobat · 02/04/2014 21:18

Aftershave. Worn by a character in a Jilly Cooper novel.

NorbertDentressangle · 02/04/2014 21:18

Aftershave here too!

MmeMorrible · 02/04/2014 21:18

It's also the name of a dodgy 1970s style men's aftershave

Aramis

Llareggub · 02/04/2014 21:18

Aftershave for me too.

Pregnantagain7 · 02/04/2014 21:19

Same as curiousgeorgie I'm afraid, sorry!

DramaAlpaca · 02/04/2014 21:19

It makes me think of the Musketeers or the aftershave.

So yes, I think it's too much to use in real life.

Kleptronic · 02/04/2014 21:19

Yep. Aftershave. Dodgy aftershave.

forcookssake · 02/04/2014 21:19

aftershave Sad

BrokenDownstairs · 02/04/2014 21:20

Makes me think of joey in friends! He was the Aramis man wasn't he?!

HyvaPaiva · 02/04/2014 21:21

Also dodgy aftershave.

VegasIsBest · 02/04/2014 21:23

Aftershave again!!

BonaDea · 02/04/2014 21:24

Stupid. Sorry.

SlinkyB · 02/04/2014 21:25

Aftershave, sorry.

TheEternalForever · 02/04/2014 21:25

I've honestly never heard of the aftershave! Is it just me?

WandaDoff · 02/04/2014 21:25

Aftershave.

LyndaCartersBigPants · 02/04/2014 21:26

I think of the Muskahounds (not as cultured as you obviously!) or the aftershave, sorry!

AfricanExport · 02/04/2014 21:27

I went to school with an Aramis many years ago. However I think more people know it as an aftershave now. And because if that I would be weary.

Also I think the surname must suit a name like Aramis, should you choose to use it

SanityClause · 02/04/2014 21:27

I know a Lithuanian person called Aurimus, which sounds like Aramis. I have never connected his name to the aftershave. But it seems so obvious, now everyone has mentioned it.

Duckegg80 · 02/04/2014 21:27

Another aftershave vote here!

scarletforya · 02/04/2014 21:30

Ha! Just call him Old Spice instead!

MrsBartlet · 02/04/2014 21:30

Definitely sound like aftershave to me.

sleepyhead · 02/04/2014 21:34

Yep. My dad's aftershave in the 80s. Not cool.

Oakmaiden · 02/04/2014 21:35

Reminds me of my daughter's middle name, which is Amaris...

Bowlersarm · 02/04/2014 21:36

Well, I think musketeer. So it's a hell of a name for a little boy to live up to.
