What do you think of the boy name Aramis?

Title says it all really . I love Dumas' work (including, of course The Three Musketeers and sequels) and think Aramis is a strong, "cool" name. But is it too much to use in real life? What do you think of when you hear Aramis? What would you think of a little boy/teen/man who introduced himself as Aramis?

Also, what middle names do you think would work well with Aramis? I feel that if you're going to go for an unusual first name, you should choose a more classic "easy to wear" middle just in case. Also, what nicknames? And sibling names would you imagine would go with Aramis?

By the way, I'm not pregnant or thinking of having children. Just got a love of unusual names! Thanks in advance guys

Um, not too keen.

Raoul? Louis?

ohfourfoxache · 02/04/2014 21:47

Or Alexandre? Or George (duke of Buckingham)?

florascotia · 02/04/2014 22:00

In the book, Aramis is a nom de guerre. His real name is Rene; in full Rene d'Herblay.

Aramis is undeniably more romantic, however....

Aftershave...and my first luuuuurve, who used to wear the stuff

Only1scoop · 02/04/2014 22:08

80's aftershave....may I suggest Kuros as an alternative Grin

NewtRipley · 02/04/2014 22:15

Aftershave

It was big in the 1980's, so maybe you are too young?

I have a couple of suggestions:

Rafael
Hugo

NewtRipley · 02/04/2014 22:15

Remy?

BrunoBrookesDinedAlone · 02/04/2014 22:23

Oh jeeps, no. You may as well call him Lynx and be done with it Grin

ohfourfoxache · 02/04/2014 22:59

Thinking along the same lines as Flora - Olivier? (Not mentioned in the romances but apparently a young Milady refers to Athos as this in one of Dumas' plays)

Naff 80s aftershave advert here

JapaneseMargaret · 03/04/2014 08:47

Aftershave / Joey from Friends spraying said aftershave.

Aramis? Aramis? Aramis?

patienceisvirtuous · 03/04/2014 08:48

Aftershave here too

EmpressOfJurisfiction · 03/04/2014 08:55

Musketeer.
Also you'll know from the sequels that Aramis turns out to be a right bastard.

ohfourfoxache · 03/04/2014 09:20

Oh Empress I wish you hadn't said that! I've just started vicomte!

EmpressOfJurisfiction · 03/04/2014 10:46

Sorry Sad
I won't go into ANY more detail and then that hopefully won't spoil it for you any further.

ohfourfoxache · 03/04/2014 10:49
Grin
squoosh · 03/04/2014 12:03

Don’t do it.

A lot of people will think of the Musketeer and that particular Musketeer was a handsome, suave lady’s man. What if your son turns out to be an introverted chartered surveryor?

ohfourfoxache · 03/04/2014 12:28

Or an accountant! Grin

Sorry for all the accountants out there, the only one I know is FIL if you met him you'd understand

MrsMopOnTop · 03/04/2014 12:29

I've never heard of the after shave and also love Dumas.

I think Aramis is lovely and a mixture of funky and elegant. I like that he could have the nicknames Ari / Amis which could help to make it a bit easier to use day to day.

Aramis Noel / Aramis Luke / Aramis Leo / Aramis Cole - something easy and one or two syllables for a middle.

I don't think I'd have the guts to use it though.

yesnoyesnoyesno · 03/04/2014 12:39

A sexy dog.

MrRected · 03/04/2014 12:41

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooo ! Don't name your child after an old man aftershave.

Please?

Floggingmolly · 03/04/2014 12:43

You may not have heard of the aftershave, but most other people have. Don't.

LizzieMint · 03/04/2014 12:43

First thought is the dodgy aftershave here too I'm afraid!
And sadly, I even remember the name of the aftershave Joey advertised in Friends.... I depress myself sometimes. Sad

RedRoom · 03/04/2014 12:44

Another vote for strong and spicy men's aftershave circa 1990!

MultipleMama · 03/04/2014 13:12

Never heard of the aftershave and have never seen friends either. Nor the muskateers.

I like it but I'm not keen on it. I think Joesph would be a lovely middle name.
