Welsh boy's names

Hi all,

We are expecting a boy and looking for some inspiration for some nice boy's names.

We have a Welsh surname, and I have a Welsh first name. I'm from Wales but live in England, and my husband is born and bred English, so I need a name that he can master with spelling and pronunciation!

I quite like Arwyn, Emrys and Rees (grandfather's name and spelling).

Any ideas would be great!

Cezella wow- what a list.

I would love to know what is the proper way to pronounce Caradog and Caradoc.

CelticPromise · 02/04/2014 20:30

As it's written, stress on the middle syllable. Stress in Welsh is always on the penultimate syllable.

My son is in a Welsh speaking school, off the top of my head these are some names in the school -
Rhydian
Dewi
Gethin
Ifan
Sion
Ioan
Iago
Mostyn

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 02/04/2014 20:41

I love Rhydian.

My second favourite is Gryffudd.

I wish I'd have been brave enough to go for these names. In retrospect I really don't know why I felt that I needed bravery to choose them!

Maybe that's because I'm much more Welsh now than I was 8 1/2 years ago!!

Yndw tad mejon - byw yng Nghanol y Gogledd!

Robin probably isn't a Welsh name per se but I know a lot of Welsh Robins!

Yeah the stress in Welsh is usually but not always on the penultimate syllable.

It's a beautiful language, so poetic- will happily teach a few of you if you fancy it!

I have an Idris!

If DC 2 turns out to be a boy he will be called Geraint.

Mmmnotsure · 02/04/2014 21:56

Cezella and Celtic - thank you!

I have an Evan

I also really like

Hadyn
Aneurin (Nye)

Lovely Welsh names suggested on here Smile. I think they are great for boys. Interesting yet strong

NewtRipley · 02/04/2014 21:58

BTW

I am English

Evan is familiar to people. We've had the odd "Heaven" - North London so people are either thinking about it as an arty name or an African name. But mostly it's spelled correctly

spiderlight · 04/04/2014 13:29

SkivingAgain I have a Rhidian Lloyd!

SeeBoobies · 04/04/2014 13:32

Ifan
Caleb
Gwydion
Cai
Gruffydd
Gwern
Aled
Steffan

Tigerlily14 · 04/04/2014 16:25

Aneurin - I love this name so much. Currently thinking of devious ways to get DH to agree to it for DC3 if it's a boy.

Alisvolatpropiis · 06/04/2014 01:33

I love Aneurin but prefer the older spelling, Aneirin. Not least because my flipping culturally ignorant phone doesn't correct the latter to aneurism Hmm.
