I really love this name, should DC3 turn out to be DS3. Does it work for life though, do you think? As a baby, child, teen and adult?

Love Monty/Montgomery!

So called 'posh' names are lovely and of course anyone can use them. Are all the Sebastians, Hugos and Quentins 'posh'? Not the ones I know (and I have oneSmile). Choose a name you love!

I am not posh at all, but am quite relaxed about the relative poshness of names! I feel the days are gone where only certain parts of society can use certain types of names etc.

I have a friend with a Hugo, which no doubt would be described as posh. My friend is totally not posh!

I am still surprised at Monty being considered wet to be honest. I expected some not to like it or to criticise it (eg for being "posh"!) but genuinely didn't expect wet to be one of the criticisms.

Is Bertie considered to be posh too?

My friend when we were little kept rabbits and every one was called Monty.

Kaekae · 12/03/2014 10:26

Love it! No way is it a wet sounding name! Quite cool IMO.

I would struggle with it. It has a name history iyswim

Not helped by garden chappie

I can't stand him

Sorry

NewtRipley · 12/03/2014 18:44

I like Hugo

It's stronger-sounding.

Maybe the posh thing is a red-herring

poorincashrichinlove · 12/03/2014 19:08

It's a great name that works for all ages, although my opinion does seem to be in the minority. I know 2 very cute little Montys and can imagine the name growing with them. I imagine they'll be very cool teens. What do you think OP?

RabbitPies · 12/03/2014 19:14

Monty is actually nicer than Bertie.

MiniTheMinx · 12/03/2014 19:15

I have a Montague, Monty for short, he's 9 now and people have always made positive comments about the name.

MarysDressSways · 12/03/2014 19:33

I like it! But would use Montgomery myself.

insanelycheerful · 12/03/2014 19:39

I suppose I am not sure what I think to be honest, poor! If I think about it hypothetically I think my gut feeling is it's cute on a little one and perhaps cool on a teen but hard to imagine an adult Monty. Then I think of Monty Halls/Don and realise it can work. I also think that you can overthink it hypothetically, and that if it were his name, it just would grow with him because it would be him (does that make any sense?!)

I do also like Hugo (nn Hughie - have an Uncle Hughie I am very fond of) but DH has vetoed Hugo and Hugh.....

Love the name Monty. We have a bunny with the name :) but also known a child and a dog with it!

peachysweet · 12/03/2014 22:36

I love it and think it would definitely grow with the child.
What other names do you have on your list?
