I really love this name, should DC3 turn out to be DS3. Does it work for life though, do you think? As a baby, child, teen and adult?

yes it is a bit 'wet' sounding tbh - also i cannot hear the name without recalling this ghastly infant school mother with a fake post accent and how she used to pronounce it.

NigellasDealer · 08/03/2014 14:46

*posh not post

MamaPain · 08/03/2014 14:49

Like I said I'm not a fan of the long name on the birth certificate approach, it's a rule I've broken myself because I think its ridiculous. However I was just trying to come up with a way you could use Monty when it suits, because in my opinion and clearly quite a few others, it really doesn't suit all ages.

insanelycheerful · 08/03/2014 14:57

I see what you mean, Mama. I will give it some thought, but suspect that we would either plump for Monty as it is, or not use it at all if we felt it didn't suit all ages. Can't really think of a name that it could be a derivative of that I also like....

Love it!!!

DitsyDonkey · 08/03/2014 17:05

For those saying it doesn't suit an grown man, Monty Don seems to suit it very well in fact his name makes him more interesting in my opinion!

storytopper · 08/03/2014 17:10

I know a few dogs called Monty which tends to put me off it as a name for a boy. Also know a few dogs called Cassie - but no little girls.

MrsReallyFedUpWithItAll · 08/03/2014 17:23

I bloody love it! It is a brilliant name. We wanted to use it for expected DS - but DS turned out to be DD!
I think it's a name that works as a baby, child, teen and a grown up (think it's quite cool and sexy actually!).

rockybalboa · 08/03/2014 17:27

My DS3 is called Monty Grin DrankSangria, I hope I am not the horrible woman Blush. He's not Montgomery or Montague though which still irks me Not because I like either of those names (I really don't which is why we didn't use them) but because the idea of giving a name which isn't a proper name made me antsy. But nothing else on the list suited him. Gabriel and Magnus were other options and I still wonder whether he could have pulled off Wilfred. Lots of people say they really like it. Although I guess that if people didn't then they wouldn't say anything.

AllMimsyWereTheBorogroves · 08/03/2014 17:30

Withnail for me too. and I'm not sure I would want to inflict that association on my child, but maybe I'm a bit odd.

Warning: that link isn't suitable for the office or for opening with children/sensitive people around!

MrsReallyFedUpWithItAll · 08/03/2014 17:52

Can anyone pull off Wilfred?

badtime · 08/03/2014 18:24

I know a little Beaumont. He is known as Beau, but I think it could also naturally shorten to Monty.

Glasshammer · 08/03/2014 18:55

I love it. Refreshingly different.

Bumbershoot · 08/03/2014 19:04

Makes me think of a big squishy tomcat.

insanelycheerful · 08/03/2014 21:54

Out of interest MrsReally, what did you call your DD? We don't know the gender so I'm thinking about boys and girls names, and if you like Monty we may like similar girls names!

OP posts:
insanelycheerful · 08/03/2014 21:56

Badtime I like Beaumont! I like both Beau and Monty. Don't think we could use it for reasons I can't reveal without potentially outing myself though...

MrsReally. I know a little Wilfred (Wilf). He REALLY carries it off. Plus you can nn Freddie if taken by the more conventional.

MrsReallyFedUpWithItAll · 09/03/2014 07:49

Insanelycheerful.... we called her Minty (birth cert says Araminta). We love this name - and there are no other little Minty's about! If I ever have a boy I don't suppose I could use Monty now though! Minty & Monty sounds silly together... though Montague & Araminta sounds fab (IMO!) - albeit a little bit posh (and we're so not).

TheBookThief · 09/03/2014 07:56

Check out Monty Halls (can't do links), he's a fine ambassador for the name Grin Mmmmmm Monty

insanelycheerful · 09/03/2014 19:58

TheBookThief -Monty Halls is indeed someone to make anyone love the name Monty, he's LOVELY!!

MrsReally that's a great name!

I have a Montgomery (DH'S choice after his Grandfather ) whom I call Monty and his 3 brothers call Mo, Gomez and Mogo .
He is quite a brute so the wet connotations don't stick .
I think it is a name that grows with a boy but still quietly think its a bit of a dog name.

Sundaedelight · 11/03/2014 18:11

Both of your DC names are fabulous and so much more interesting than the usual run. Monty is a great name and I see it more of a man's name.

NewtRipley · 11/03/2014 18:58

I also don't like it. It sounds posh - are you posh?

Also, it's cute for a baby, but twee for anyone else.
Sorry, it is one of those names i feel quite strongly about for some reason

NewtRipley · 11/03/2014 19:01

Slimsoon

Yes, that's it - i do think of dogs. Sorry again.

Sundaedelight · 11/03/2014 19:24

What's wrong with sounding posh?
