4 days to go - Carla, Amber or Freya? Pls help!

Hulafox · 03/03/2014 09:18

I've resisted posting until now as I though DH and I should choose ourselves without input. But we're 4 days from due date without a decision and so need some urgent help!

Our top 3 and my reservations about them are below. Surname is 2 syllables beginning with D....Connie is a definite middle name as its a family name.

Carla Connie D - this is our favourite on its own, but I am worried it will always be misheard as Cara / Clara / Carly etc, particularly Clara as that seems to be gaining popularity

Amber Connie D - this was our first thought when we found out I was pregnant and we really like it. But is it too new age, or potentially chavvy?

Freya Connie D - we really like this too, I see it as a pretty name. But we had been trying to avoid anything so high up the popularity ratings. (Hence why Carla fit our bill as its a known, familiar name without being very common or popular.)

Other names we both agree we like are Ivy, Bethany, Ruby, Caitlin, Hazel and Rhona. I love Heidi but DH is really against.

Thanks in advance!

  1. Amber - lovely name, very pretty
  2. Carla - also quite nice
  3. Freya - don't like, too wispy and frayed
MamaPingu · 03/03/2014 09:57

I agree:

  1. Amber, I don't think it's chavvy!
  2. Carla is quite nice but reminds me of scrubs Smile
  3. Really dislike Freya sorry!
Allalonenow · 03/03/2014 10:08

Freya is lovely.

Not so keen on Carla, a bit dated, and I think the Carla Connie combination is clunky.

Amber would work best for a rock singer.

I love Heidi too.

BirthdayMuppet · 03/03/2014 10:08

I much prefer Carla out of your top three, but out of all of them I like Heidi best of all. I'm a bit less keen on Carla Connie, but you rarely use the two together in daily life so it wouldn't be a big issue for me. I don't like Amber at all, it's terribly 80's to me, and Freya's are ten a penny round here.

Leeds2 · 03/03/2014 10:16

Of the three, I like Carla the best, but not with Connie. Could she maybe have a second middle name, between the two?

Like Freya, but it is popular.

Don't like Amber at all.

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 03/03/2014 10:26

Amber.

With Connie as a second name I personally wouldn't use a first name ending in -y or -ie, so that would exclude Ivy, Bethany and Ruby.
Of the rest i think Hazel would fit best.

Perspective21 · 03/03/2014 10:32

I feel I have to pop on this thread and defend my Freya! nearly 14, so it wasn't as popular then. However, she is not wispy or frayed!! She is beautiful, kind and very arty and has a lovely quiet confidence about her. She has been described by several teachers as awesome, and she really is, a really lovely, all round good soul. Named (romantically) after the goddess of love and she has so lived up to her strong name!

I have a Sophia too if that helps! Another awesome daughter!!

Pobblewhohasnotoes · 03/03/2014 11:18

Carla Connie doesn't work together. My favourite is Freya then Amber.

Hulafox · 03/03/2014 12:10

thanks for all your comments so far - it really helps! do keep them coming....

I love Freya, closely followed by Carla ... Not keen on Amber.
However, Amber goes best with your chosen middle name.

alizeeod · 03/03/2014 12:54

Amber!!!
It's a strong name, love it!

MerryWinterfel · 03/03/2014 13:24

Another vote for Amber here, but all are very nice names so you cant go wrong!

mumbaisapphirebluespruce · 03/03/2014 17:42

I prefer Amber of the three. I know two adult Carla's and never have I heard their names mispronounced or misspelt. I think you are over worrying in that instance. Why not wait until baby arrives to name her?

Mireio · 03/03/2014 20:29

I do see Amber as as chavvy, unfortunately, due to an Amber I know. It's also a bit 80s. I'm not a fan of either Freya or Carla, but if I had to I'd pick Carla, it's more unusual right now than Freya.

StrawberryMojito · 03/03/2014 20:33

Amber
Carla
Freya

In that order. Not keen on Freya at all.

HoneyandRum · 03/03/2014 22:58

Carla

Amber is becoming mega overused

Carla is a strong name (I wouldn't worry much about how the first and second names sound together as middle names only get referred to when filling out forms) or her nn can be CC!

Freya is pretty but done to death and already starting to date.

aGirlDownUnder1 · 04/03/2014 05:04

My favourite is Freya, it's a very pretty name. Amber is nice to, I personally don't see it as chavvy and it works well with the name Connie. I don't like Carla at all, sorry.

JessePinkmansMom · 04/03/2014 05:08

Freya is very pretty. also like Carla but really like Hazel. What about Heather?

Hulafox · 04/03/2014 07:35

I really loved Hazel too, but one of the NCT mums is called Hazel - does that matter? I def wouldn't choose the same name as one of the other babies, but it seems a bit strange choosing one of the mum's names too, even though it was on our shortlist long before I met her!

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 04/03/2014 07:39

I don't think it would be seen as peculiar especially if it was on your shortlist long before you met her.

Oriunda · 04/03/2014 08:03

I like Carla. Would go for Carla Constance.

RalphRecklessCardew · 04/03/2014 08:30

Carla! Chic, unusual, and the only Carla I know kicks ass.

The others are ok.

DrankSangriaInThePark · 04/03/2014 08:58

Carla, for the reasons given by others. Underused at the moment, and pretty. Carla Connie is cute! (I love Connie, can I persuade you to call her Connie Carla? Grin)

Both Amber and Freya are dated. (In that all Ambers and Freyas are teenagers) Amber I find a bit common (and not in a good way) whereas Freya was dipsy hippy chic when it was fashionable. I prefer Flora if you're going down that route.

Hazel is nice too!

LucyLasticBand · 04/03/2014 09:00

well the nct hazel would be pleased, if you chose her name.

Sevensev · 04/03/2014 09:06

I would wait and see what she looks like.
One of my children definitely looked suited to some names and not others.
You may take one look at her and see that she is Carla for example.
