Thoughts of the name Estile for a boy?

I quite like the name and would probably spell it Estille or Astille. What are your thoughts? And yes I did get the idea from Lisa Moorish who named her son Astile. I know its not to everyone's liking but I've grown to love it.

Estille sounds like the girls name Estelle. Astile sounds a bit too much like ass for my liking but if slebs are using the name it might become mainstream.

How do you pronounce it - and who on earth is Lisa Whotsit? Blush

MichaelFinnigan · 08/02/2014 17:20

Pete Doherty's bad tattoo on his spotty sweaty neck

Sorry

xmauixwowix · 08/02/2014 17:21

Its pronounced Ah-Steal. lol if I describe who Lisa Moorish is it will just sound terrible.

It's lovely

Innogen · 08/02/2014 17:22

Astala?

HyvaPaiva · 08/02/2014 17:28

Not good, sorry. It sounds like 'I steal'. Plus, I wouldn't take inspiration from Pete Doherty in naming a baby.

squoosh · 08/02/2014 17:33

Is it a real name? I read that Pete Doherty made it up from a mish mash of letters from the names Pete and Lisa (Moorish) his son's Mum.

Frontdoorstep · 08/02/2014 18:32

Estile looks a bit like and sounds a lot like Estelle, so might be confused for a girl. Astile looks an sounds a bit less like Estelle.

Onesleeptillwembley · 08/02/2014 18:33

Not a clue who the Lisa person is, but I wouldn't use it. It doesn't sound very masculine, or, indeed, very nice.

curlew · 08/02/2014 18:34

It's not a name.

And it sounds like something you would call a girl- which he will not thank you for.

smallandimperfectlyformed · 08/02/2014 18:38

I'm sorry, I know names are very personal but I too think that it's a very girly sounding name. I also think that pronunciation makes me think of arsehole - although that may be me being a bit of a potty mouth Blush!!

yourlittlesecret · 08/02/2014 18:43

Have you heard the song a boy named Sue?

Beanymonster · 08/02/2014 18:49

Looking at your title I thought it was for a girl, not sure why, just has that feel about it- although, that would only be a problem until they 'look like a boy' instead of the unisex baby/ toddler stage..

xmauixwowix · 08/02/2014 18:58

All valid points. Does anyone have any suggestions for similar sounding names? Thanks.

Estil, Estille (and there are more variations) are all variations of the old French family name d'Estelle. When they left Southern France during the 16th and 17th century, they tended to drop the d'. The Estelles were some of the founding families of the United States (not called that then though).

So there is quite a lot of history to the name.
