I quite like the name and would probably spell it Estille or Astille. What are your thoughts? And yes I did get the idea from Lisa Moorish who named her son Astile. I know its not to everyone's liking but I've grown to love it.

Girl's name. I second Emil as being similar and reasonable.

IHaveSeenMyHat · 08/02/2014 22:26

It's made up - they took letters from Lisa and Peter to spell it.

I can't think why you'd want to copy something like that.

I really like it. But if you are looking for similar alternatives, how about etienne? Or Tristan? I know Tristan is a bit posh, but I have always liked it because it is like the French for sad, triste. Not entirely sure why that makes me like it - appeals to my inner Morrissey? But actually I thnk I still prefer estile.

'Estile' is how my Spanish students pronounce 'style', so it just makes me giggle. Are you sure it's a real name?

I'd pronounce it "ass-tile" on first reading, which isn't a great connotation Hmm

I know someone who has a son called Castiel which I think is lovely

adaloveslace · 09/02/2014 10:43

My first thought is: I really wouldn't.

Similar sounding, less 'huh?' names .... Elias, Atticus, Etienne, Ellis, Aston, Easton, Austen

specialsubject · 09/02/2014 10:50

just looked her up. Hmm.

if you want to set your child up for 16 years of ferocious piss-taking, go for it.

Thank you all for the suggestions. You've been kinder than I thought. I like the name, but considering I would be taking inspiration from a drug addict and a failed singer who's most famous for having kids with rock stars out of wed lock is a bit silly. I loved The Libertines so that's what attracted me to the name. I realize now that it just screams obsessive fan.

I like Atticus, Easton, Aston & Etienne. Atticus sounds a tad pretentious, but I rather a name sound posh than chavy. Etienne works quite well for me since its the french form of Stephen. My mum wanted to name me Stephen if I had been a boy. I hate the name Steven so I would never use it. Cheers!

Sounds too feminine to me

MarvellousMechanicalMouseOrgan · 10/02/2014 12:46

I love Emile, but I think that might be a rock star child name too.

Iestyn is a top name, and its a proper name I always think if in doubt just call him John!
