My husband and I are really struggling to decide on a name for our baby girl which is due in May. We have a few names we like, would love to get some feedback or any other ideas to add to our list, or suggestions for middle names to go with any of these...

Anya
Maya
Esme
Elsie
Sophia
Georgia

Lovely names; Esme and Sophia are my favourites

ZingChoirsOfAngels · 11/01/2014 15:13

Sophia

MrsRV · 11/01/2014 15:51

aww... we're having another baby girl in May too and I like all of your names! we can't have Elsie but is one of my absolute faves. our surname ends "sie" so it rhymes & my fear is a speech impediment Grin

we're probably going with May as a middle name after my campaign for Maya and May as a first name. Elsie May or Elsie Maya sounds lovely and approproate after birth month!!!

AGoodPirate · 11/01/2014 15:53

I like them all. I would probably cross off Maya because I know for or five.

MrsRV · 11/01/2014 16:01

Your taste in names is so incredibly similar to ours.... we have Erin on our list too... and Brooke.

sazzle30 · 11/01/2014 16:02

Thanks everyone. I don't know any Maya's so thought it was unusual (we have liked the name ever since we honeymooned in Riviera Maya, Mexico 6 years ago) but after researching the names it does seen Maya is getting popular.

I too love Elsie and love the idea of using Elsie with Maya or May as a middle name. Thank you!

Sophia is a beautiful name too but I worry that it will be hard to say alongside our surname which begins with a 'Z.'

I'm going to say Georgia. I'm currently sat cuddling my baby Georgia :)
We always get comments on what a lovely name it is and her nn is Georgie.

sazzle30 · 11/01/2014 16:11

I love the name Erin too but hubby not so keen!

You have great taste in names they are all right up my street!!! Hard to choose a fave, perhaps Georgia I think!

picnicbasketcase · 11/01/2014 16:25

Love Anya, Maya and Sophia Smile

MoonHare · 11/01/2014 18:08

I was going to vote for Esmé but since your surname begins with a Z maybe not, would it sound a bit buzzy?!?

Anya is also nice and would be my second choice from your list.

I'd steer clear of Maya. There are several similar sounding names that are fairly popular. I know of three little girls who are all friends named Mia, Maya and Maia. Very confusing.

mummybare · 11/01/2014 18:13

Love Anya and Maya. Pretty, elegant, international and not too popular. Beautiful.

sazzle30 · 11/01/2014 20:42

Thank you. I do love Anya and think Annie is a cute nickname.

Such a hard decision naming another human being!!

we're having the same dilemma...!!!

southerngirl25599 · 12/01/2014 09:40

My favourite is Anya but I also really like Georgia :)

LadyDowagerHatt · 12/01/2014 14:56

Wow really similar to our list for DD who was born in June and we went with Erin in the end.

I love Anya with nn Annie.

sazzle30 · 13/01/2014 20:05

Thanks everyone. If we went with Anya do you think we need a one syllable middle name? Our last name is three syllables and quite difficult to pronounce and spell, so wondering if we should stick to something simple for middle name like May (as we won't be using Maya and May will/should be her birth month).

At the moment our shortlist is down to:

Anya May
or
Elsie May

...although we haven't completely discarded the others. Not sure any of the other names we like would work as a middle name unfortunately.

MrsRV · 13/01/2014 20:12

my fave is still Elsie May and a little bit jealous that you'll get to use it!

I'm not a fan of Anya May but using your other names I do like Anya Sophia.

GimmeDaBoobehz · 13/01/2014 20:14

I love all these names.

I especially like Sophia and Anya.

For all these names I give you:

Anya Louise
Maya Rachel
Esme Laura
Elsie Jane
Sophia Marie
Georgia Katherine

GimmeDaBoobehz · 13/01/2014 20:18

Oh and Elsie May is beautiful too.
Anya Kate would also be pretty.
You have very similar taste to myself.
:)

sazzle30 · 13/01/2014 20:47

I LOVE the Anya Sophia combination - thanks so much MrsRV!

Still love Elsie May too. Think I have my shortlist down to two. Phew! :)

Now I need to work on hubby for our own baby girls name!!!!

ZingChoirsOfAngels · 13/01/2014 21:12

It's probably irrelevant but in Hungarian "Anya" means mother.

Thought you might want to know

KLou1105 · 13/01/2014 22:06

Love anya, Elsie, sophia and esme other similar names on our list u might like are:

Enya
Eliza
Esmerine

:-) x

hackneybird · 13/01/2014 22:22

Elsie May is lovely as is Anya with nn Annie. But May as a middle name is v popular. Lots round here in London and also in s yorks according to my SIL who is a primary school teacher. Although its popularity may not bother you.
