What do you think of Noa?

What do you think of the girl's name Noa? It's a Hebrew name, very popular in Israel, where it's also distinctive from the boy's name Noah (which is pronounced No-ach). But do you think she'll have a problem growing up with a name like that in the UK?

Also, what do think of the name Alma? (another Hebrew name, which has Latin roots/ sound to it as well!)

I like them both, prefer Noa though very pretty and exotic. Dd2 is Robyn so same sound as the male but different spelling.

BunnyLebowski · 05/01/2014 18:39

I love love love love LOVE Noa for a girl! Its gorgeous.

Don't like Alma.

Bakerof3pudsxx · 05/01/2014 18:40

Noa is nice

Although I prefer nova

LittleRedDinosaur · 05/01/2014 18:49

Love it!

Frontdoorstep · 05/01/2014 18:50

Noa sounds to be like it has a letter missing and should be Nora. However it is easy to spell and pronounce, as is Alma. I prefer Alma to Noa.

justhayley · 05/01/2014 19:16

Noah is becoming fairly popular in the Uk I think it may be hard for a Noa growing up here to be honest. What about Nea?

Rosencrantz · 05/01/2014 20:58

Be aware that she may grow up around a sea of male Noah's.

snuffykins · 05/01/2014 20:59

I like noa. It's different without being weird. I think alma is really old fashioned.

BunnyLebowski · 05/01/2014 21:00

Alma

CaptainCunt · 05/01/2014 21:01

Noa Noa

BabCNesbitt · 05/01/2014 21:03

Yeah, what CaptainCunt said. It would make me think you'd named her after a clothing brand. But Alma is very cool Smile

JanetAndRoy · 05/01/2014 21:04

I'd think it was a boy and you'd spelled it wrong.

cookielove · 05/01/2014 21:12

I love love love love love it! I think it is so beautiful!! It was on my list but dh said no!

Not a fan of Alma!

Mitchell2 · 05/01/2014 21:35

I like both. Alma more but that's because it's a family name for me.

Rosieliveson · 05/01/2014 22:10

Noa is pretty. Isn't it the name of a cacharel perfume? Not sure whether that makes a difference to you or not

HyvaPaiva · 05/01/2014 22:11

I prefer Nia to Noa.
I love Alma.

mrsgumpy · 05/01/2014 22:40

I love it soooooooooo much. My favourite name. I wish we could have called DD Noa. So beautiful.

Itzak Rabin's amazing granddaughter too.

mellicauli · 05/01/2014 22:42

lovely. we used to know one. There was no problem with the name.

EugenesAxe · 05/01/2014 22:48

Noa Noa has something to do with Paul Gauguin... and is also a Danish clothing store. I think it might be like an exotic dream world he thought up.

I don't mind it but would probably think it a bit weird that a girl was called it, unless I first saw it written down.

EugenesAxe · 05/01/2014 22:51

Ah no - just looked up. It's the name of his journal about his time in Tahiti. Apparently it means 'fragrant scent' - which backs up the perfume comment.

MyNameIsKenAdams · 05/01/2014 22:54

Love Noa. Also like how it looks written too.

UriGeller · 05/01/2014 22:54

Quite like it but I prefer Noor.

ActiveTimes · 06/01/2014 19:35

Noa is very popular in Spain, there's always at least one in the park/classroom. Noah for a boy wouldn't work here because it would be like calling your boy Olivia or Ava. I imagine it would be the reverse of this for a little girl named Noa in England, Noah is too popular there.

What about Nina.

Anjou · 06/01/2014 20:14

I know a little girl named Noa. I'd never heard of it or a girl before that and my initial reaction was "oh, unusual". Now of course, I don't think twice about it, so nor will anyone else if you choose to go with it.

It's a very pretty, feminine sound and - weirdly - I don't associate it with the male 'Noah' which is just tooooo popular for words at all.

Good luck!
