What do you think of Noa?

What do you think of the girl's name Noa? It's a Hebrew name, very popular in Israel, where it's also distinctive from the boy's name Noah (which is pronounced No-ach). But do you think she'll have a problem growing up with a name like that in the UK?

Also, what do think of the name Alma? (another Hebrew name, which has Latin roots/ sound to it as well!)

I would say Noa in the same way as Noah, as I think many (possibly most) non-Jewish people would.

I wouldn't.

Maybe, as others have suggested, Nia?

Noa? Is the pronunciation the same as Noah?

If it is then I would suggest you think of a different name as in England it is a very popular boys name and your darling little daughter may be in line for some ridicule.

I really like Noa, but there are a lot of male Noah's around, which people generally don't pronounce "No-ach".

Not so keen on Alma.

Noa is lovely, I know an Israeli Noa, but as Noah is so popular these days it could be a bit of a bum ache for her if she grows up in the UK.

It's better than Alma though, Alma is absolute frumpsville. Makes me think of that woman who was in Home & Away in the 90's.

I know someone who's just called her baby noa. I think its beautiful.

I live in Wales and Noa is the welsh spelling for Noah so it seems male to me. However, I think anything goes now, I met a baby girl called Frank the other day!

I know a girl called Noa - and several boys.....
for that reason I wouldn't go with it...

I like it but don't think I would use it because of the sheer amount of male Noah's at the moment. At first glance it also looks like a spelling mistake.
It does have a lovely sound though and there are worse names out there!

I love Noa. Not keen on Alma.

I have a daughter called Noa. I am biased. I love the name. It really suits our daughter.

However, you will get people assume you have a son if they are not aware of the name. It is however, in no way related to the name Noah for a boy. It is a Hebrew girls name. But not many people will know that. It is also used as a girls name in Japan and Scandinavia.

I love, love, love the name.
