Hi,

Just wondering what people think of Maisie, but also- my cat's name is Millie... would Maisie be too similar?! (We tend to call the cat Mills...)

Thanks Smile

I like Maisie, but then I should - I have one!

The only thing I will say is that it is now far more popular than it was when I had mine - I've not met another 8/9 yr old, but lots of 2/3 year olds.

Thank you LtEve Smile

I've liked Maisie for about 5 years...

Alisvolatpropiis · 30/11/2013 13:13

I'm not a huge fan but I think you can get away with it even if your cat is called Millie.

I on the otherhand have a dog called Milly and have realised I have vetoed Camilla nn Milly for myself. Flipping dogs and their recall ability!

SoonToBeSix · 30/11/2013 15:58

Mouse

Rosencrantz · 30/11/2013 16:21

I wouldn't worry about the cat!

GideonKipper · 30/11/2013 16:50

SoonToBeSix it's Maisy Mouse. Different spelling. And hardly universally well known, especially amongst non-parents. If someone asked about the name Harry, would you reply with one word: 'Potter'?

I don't think it matters in the slightest about the car being called Millie OP. It's a totally different name.

GideonKipper · 30/11/2013 16:51

Cat, not car!

SoonToBeSix · 30/11/2013 17:07

The op asked what people think of the name Maisie and it makes me think Maisy mouse as it is pronounced the same. The op was asking for opinions.

Mattissy · 30/11/2013 17:14

I love it, but prefer the Maisy spelling. ds was going to be Maisy if he'd been a girl. I've never met one but know 3 Macy's, which is v similar.

JuniorMint · 30/11/2013 17:15

Thanks for all your views Smile

My best friend named their first born Maisie, and at first I thought it was way too cutsie. It has grown on her, but I would still worry that it's a bit of a cutsie name once she's grown up, given that she has nothing more formal to fall back on.

Plus, it seems to be getting quite popular here (Scotland), in case that's a factor.

Bowlersarm · 30/11/2013 17:32

I have never heard of Maisie mouse, whoever that may be.

I like it. Fine with Millie.

TessTackle · 30/11/2013 17:35

I'm a Maisie, I used to hate it; thinking it was cutesie as a pp said. But I get so many compliments on it now, and it's becoming more popular. I've grown to love it Smile

JuniorMint · 30/11/2013 17:39

I'm not hugely familiar with Maisy Mouse, but I do like Maisie Comes To Morningside Grin

I agree with GideonKipper, I doubt there are any names that don't have a TV/book double so a character mouse called Maisie=no problem.

TessTackle · 30/11/2013 17:43

Fwiw Maisy mouse used to give me the rage because her name is spelt wrong. Though there's a lovely dr Seuss book called daisy head Maisy Smile

JuniorMint · 30/11/2013 17:58

I wonder how long it'll be before someone names their baby Peppa... Just imagine it- Peppa Smith. I do know of baby/toddler Miley and Renesmee...

Maisy may be the mouse's name but at least it was a name before the mouse existed. Although having said that, I heard Wendy was invented by JM Barrie for his character in Peter Pan.

My Maisie is in her twenties now and it was never heard when she was little - getting popular now though, after years of her hating it, I think she's ok with it!

Mattissy · 30/11/2013 18:30

It's actually a nn for Margaret, so if you want a Sunday name too.

I preferred Maisy, which had been used for centuries too so not wrong or new fangled, as I knew someone with the surname Maisie and I just wanted slightly different.

TessTackle · 30/11/2013 21:37

MrsSippie Muv, is that you?? Grin

TessTackle · 30/11/2013 21:38

Yy Mattissy I'm called Maisie after my great aunt Margeret Smile

MrsSippie · 01/12/2013 08:45
Wink
Fairylea · 01/12/2013 08:49

I like it.... I also know a Maisyne which I think is quite different.

mydaftlass · 01/12/2013 08:55

There is a Maisie and a Macy in DDs class and they get mixed up. It used to make me think "mouse" but not so much now.
