Hi,

Just wondering what people think of Maisie, but also- my cat's name is Millie... would Maisie be too similar?! (We tend to call the cat Mills...)

Thanks Smile

I haven't got a clue who 'Maisy Mouse' is.

It is a bit cutesy for my liking, but it's a nice name.

Christ.

Cutesy must be the most overused word on this board.

Tedious.

Mehrida · 01/12/2013 15:10

DS was going to be a Maisie. I love love love it.

Since having him I have learned about Maisy Mouse however Maisie will always be a cat from Morningside to me!

Buttercup4 · 01/12/2013 16:40

Apologies Gideon please provide us all with a list of words you find acceptable Hmm

GideonKipper · 01/12/2013 16:46

No.

CarryOnDancing · 01/12/2013 17:06

I'm not sure how well I'd imagine it working on an adult but that's possibly because I don't know any adult ones. I don't think it's overly popular but I would group it together with the Molly, Millie trend, which makes it's feel like it's popular. That would put me off but it's perfectly useable alongside your cat!

It works for little people but then I'm not sure, you could even say it's too cutesy? Wink

I love irrational board rage!

I really don't like it sorry, nothing in particular and I think it's sweet on a toddler I just can't see it as a grown up name. It's too sickly sweet for me.

toobreathless · 01/12/2013 22:22

& absolutely fine with the cat name! I wouldn't even think to connect the two.

HavantGuard · 01/12/2013 22:26

Cloying? Saccharine?

Wishfulmakeupping · 01/12/2013 22:26

It reminds me of the play 'the boyfriend' the character Maisie in that us pretty fab. I think if it were me I would use Margaret on the birth certificate though

Wishfulmakeupping · 01/12/2013 22:27

Is pretty fab*

poppydaisy · 01/12/2013 22:31

Too childish and cutesy, sorry

moggiek · 01/12/2013 22:33

Maisie was my Mum's name. She was the kindest, loveliest person I will ever know. I think it's a wonderful name!

GideonKipper · 01/12/2013 23:18

What was the inspiration for your username poppydaisy if I may be so bold as to ask?

poppydaisy · 01/12/2013 23:20

Our guinea pigs, Gideon. And yours?

GideonKipper · 01/12/2013 23:21

How can a six letter, two syllable word be 'cloying and saccharine'?

GideonKipper · 01/12/2013 23:22

God knows.

HavantGuard · 01/12/2013 23:41

Those were for Gideon who finds 'cutesy' overused.

GideonKipper · 01/12/2013 23:51

Yeah. I got them.

What I don't get is what makes this particular name cloying and saccharine?

It's simply an M. An A. An I. An S. Another I. An E. What makes those particular letters in that particular combination cloying and saccharine?

HavantGuard · 01/12/2013 23:52

What makes C, O and D fishy?

GideonKipper · 01/12/2013 23:57

Well the word COD doesn't invoke any reaction in me, so that's not really working.

Is Libby cloying and saccharine?
Holly/Hollie?
Jessie?
Cassie?
Janey?
Katie?
Susie?

What is it about Maisie as opposed to other names?

shoobidoo · 02/12/2013 14:42

I don't like Maisie at all, sorry. I find it childish, cutesy and not very elegant/feminine. I am surprised how defensive some people are getting on this thread. The op has asked for our (honest) opinions on a name and that's what people are offering.

qumquat · 02/12/2013 14:55

Gideon, yes I find all the names you've listed cutesy/cloying as well. Different people have different tastes. Of course words evoke moods and feelings; if strings of letters together didn't have any connotations attached to them, we all might as well just assign our children a number or barcode.
