Latin/Scottish. Need help from Scots!

I've posted before on Chat and got unanimous (unheard of?) thumbs up for "Harris" but having huge second thoughts.

Multicultural family; I'm Southern European and DH is Scottish.
We have decided on a Scottish name for this boy, who's due in 1 week.

DD is 19 months and has a staunchly Latin / Mediterranean name (Maria Francesca) - named after both my grandmothers, Maria is the most classic name in my country, used for saints and queens, very traditional.

And there lies the problem, I really love the sound of Harris but it's so modern and trendy (and that's not my bag)

I adore Angus, but DH thinks it's meaty/steaky.
I suggested Sholto and he just laughed.

I could potentially convince him on Hamish, which I also love.

Any thoughts?

My shortlist for number 3 was Hamish, Fergus or Lachlan. Still love them all. But I also think that Alasdair and Cameron are lovely names. Really liked Hunter as well but its not very Scottish!

I can assure you that even Scottish people struggly to pronounce Lachlan properly, even when corrected many times...

maybe not posh enough for you but I'm similar ancestry and have an Anna-Lucia, Elliot and Lewis.
Spanish relatives like to call him Luis with an accent Elliot becomes Ellito and Anna-Lucia is the only person we know with that name round here.

Not impressed with the name Harris, but love Sholto. Angus seems to be gaining in popularity again. It's your baby though & you call him whatever you feel comfortable with. If Harris doesn't feel right, then you've plenty of good names to choose from!

Cosmo? DH is Italian and DS is named after his father (Cosimo) but was under impression Cosmo also has some Scottish link?

I'm Scottish. On our boys list we also have Harris. As well as Fraser, Struan, fergus, angus (with alternative spellings). In our family we've already got Kester which is apparently Scottish for kristofer (although I haven't seen it on any website!!).

I'm Scottish, and I've never heard of anyone called Harris. I don't think I'd necessarily associate the name with the island, so probably wouldn't think of it as a Scottish name!

I think Harris is a great name, not modern/trendy at all IMO. DS's middle name is Murdo (family name). I also like Fergus and Archie.

We have a Murray. We didn't know until we named him that there was a family connection.

I do like Harris too. I know of one. So it's not overly popular.

James is more on a par with Maria. Ancient, classic and never really out of fashion.

Andrew could also be considered to be on a par being the Scottish saint but not very fashionable now I don't think.

Harris can also be a Pakistani name. I know a lot of Scottish Pakistani families who use it because it works well in both cultures. I think its a lovely name.

How about Alexander (or a Southern European version if there is one?) Would Sandy work?

Sandro? Similar to Sandy, could be short for Alessandro if you want longer name, or of course Alex, plus you get your saints name.

Hamish is fabulous name do live Angus but too similar to dc2 Archie. Not Scottish just love them

Alexander goes beautifully with Maria Francesca. It sounds Scottish, but will also be understandable to Italian relatives.
