Hiya, just a light hearted thread. What names do you wish you could use but for one reason or another havnt/couldn't ?

Might help someone else to find their dream baby name in the meantime.

Primrose: Grew up in primrose hill, DP would think I'd lost the plot if even suggested.

Heidi: best friends daughter

Joshua: DP hates it (although I will work on it for future DS)

Willow: Too Hippy for DP

Autumn: Don't think Im brave enough to use it but think it's beautiful.

India: same reason as Autumn really + I have no indian connections and have never been so doesn't make sense.

Anneliese, if we had had a girl. However DH says it makes him think of Neighbours! Apparently there was an Anneliese in it? (I haven't watched it since the early 90s!)

JRmumma · 08/11/2013 13:06

Hamish or Seamus, but im not Scottish or Irish so would be a little bit pretentious.

I also like Rodney but DH was having none of it!

cantthinkofagoodone · 08/11/2013 13:09

All vetoed by DH

Any name of any pupil he has ever taught
Jasmine
Austin AKA Ozzy

'I also like Rodney but DH was having none of it!'

Wise man!

ceramicunicorn · 08/11/2013 13:14

I love Wren or Willow for a girl. But her genetic makeup would probably result in a her growing up to be a chunky giantess, so not really suitable names.

JRmumma · 08/11/2013 13:36

Ah no sqoosh, i love it! Massive only fools and horses fan though.

My son does actually have a fools and horses associated name, but not one you would realise unless you are a massive fan like me, and knew i was a massive fan too.

My exes all have lovely names. The bastards.

Trinpy · 08/11/2013 14:42

Wren, Willow and a load of other girls' names I loved have been vetoed by dh Sad . We both liked the name Harriet but our surname begins with an H and it's too much of a mouthful.

I like Autumn but baby is due in April (and dh wouldn't like it anyway). Loved April but April born in April is a bit twee and an April born any other month will be commented on for the rest of her life.

JRmumma · 08/11/2013 15:25

LOVE the name April! Use it! By your logic mo one would ever be called April!

Frikadellen · 08/11/2013 17:23

Both DH and I love Flora but our surname starts FL.

Serenity6 · 08/11/2013 17:41

Amelia -both DH and I adore this name but DH ex wife's name is Amy and
That is a common nn for Amelia, unfortunately :(

Charlotte- DH has a niece with this name! :(

VerySmallSqueak · 08/11/2013 17:48

Sid
Dylan

Ember
Astrid
Nancy

I didn't have any DS's, and the girls names were either ones I didn't think of at the time,or were vetoed by DH.

Layl77 · 08/11/2013 19:00

CordeliaRose · 08/11/2013 21:24

  • didn't have a girl. Probably wouldn't have considered these at the time in any case Grin

We both liked Sebastian, but it didn't go with our surname.

VerySmall I have a very small (as in petite rather than young!) friend called Nancy who is a BIG personality. I love that name because she's so fabulous. It suits her perfectly!

Bluemonkeyspots · 08/11/2013 21:31

JR what's your ds's name?

I'm a massive only fools fan and you've made me curious

funchum8am · 08/11/2013 21:40

I love the name Gretchen. I know, I know, but I do. DH says if it was a Cabbage Patch Kid name it would be Retchin' Gretchen.

And he is right, of course. But I think it is fab!

MrsCharlieD · 08/11/2013 21:49

VerySmallSqueak · 09/11/2013 00:00

Ha! I have only just realised that I have Sid and Nancy on my list.

Kind of says something really....Grin

I think Nancy will be getting more and more popular Cordelia and Mattissy.

'Cos it's gorgeous, isn't it? Both for a child and an adult.

Perhaps I'll change my name.

Phoebe
:(

When my friend was pregnant 6 years ago, she ''idly'' asked me my favourite names and I, eager to share, told her that if I ever had a baby girl she would be Phoebe because when I was 11 I was really into Greek mythology (incredibly pretentious child) and Phoebe was one of the original Titans - her name means, bright, shining (sometimes moon). ''Oh'' said she, ''It's a bit 'Friends', isn't it?'' Me: ''No, it's the most perfect name ever....''

5 months later.... she introduces her little girl.... Envy

but I'm over it...
no, really... :) Wink
