Names you wish you could use

Hiya, just a light hearted thread. What names do you wish you could use but for one reason or another havnt/couldn't ?

Might help someone else to find their dream baby name in the meantime.

Primrose: Grew up in primrose hill, DP would think I'd lost the plot if even suggested.

Heidi: best friends daughter

Joshua: DP hates it (although I will work on it for future DS)

Willow: Too Hippy for DP

Autumn: Don't think Im brave enough to use it but think it's beautiful.

India: same reason as Autumn really + I have no indian connections and have never been so doesn't make sense.

Amelia. It's an old family name and I loved it for years, even during my 'I'm NEVER having kids' days. I suggested it to DP when I was pregnant and he said he hated it. I did try a bit of persuasion but it was a no go. I didn't realise just how popular it was though so I'm actually glad we didn't use it, I've met two or three already and DD is only 4 months old!

Also I loved Aurora. Again DP wasn't keen but I'm really glad because I now think it's a bit too Disney and DD is so not an Aurora!

GillyBillyWilly · 09/11/2013 09:17

I agree with Amelia. I love it but it REALLY doesn't go with our surname... AT ALL Grin
Also it's become a bit too popular now I think.

killpeppa · 09/11/2013 09:19

Cora or aoife
I had boys :(

Anjou · 09/11/2013 09:27

We have 2 DS's so any girls name Naturally went out the window. I would've loved Blythe but our surname starts with a 'J' and DH pointed out potentially handing your kid a ready made nickname of BJ isn't a very nice thing to do!

According to DH's name filtering system:
Ezra - too biblical
Atticus - too obvious who its names after
Wolfie/Iggy/Ziggy/Spike - they're not real names
Etienne - we're not French.

All sound logic, I suppose.

SicknSpan · 09/11/2013 10:24

Kitty and Greta. We have sons and although I'm now pg with dc3, other people close to us have used these and so they are out of the running for this one.

CordeliaRose · 09/11/2013 12:14

Wombmates Shock at your friend!

littlegem12 · 09/11/2013 20:52

Rae and Orlaith for girls. Wasn't allowed either, luckily had a boy!

Astarael · 09/11/2013 21:10

Evan

Best boys name ever! DH hates hates hates it Sad I'm hoping to shoe horn it in as a middle name as its a family name but I think DH loathes it too much.

When I was very nearly due to go on maternity leave a new girl started in our office and I just fell in love with her name. I knew I was having a girl and I was so tempted to use it but I really thought it would look so wierd/freaky/stalkerish if I named my baby after her (as no doubt people would have thought!) after she'd been in the office for all of two weeks! So I didn't but I still kind of love it!

Her name was Elfi.

Anjou · 10/11/2013 12:47

Astarael, I have 2 close friends names Evan so I couldn't use it, but its an absolutely lovely name. I have a friend whose little girl is named Evan (nn for Evangeline). Never thought of it for a girl before but it totally works and I absolutely love it! might steal it if I ever convince DH to have another DC

CoffeeChocolate, my friend has a daughter named Elfi. It's fantastic!

I forgot to put Digby & Diggory on my list earlier. DH also classes these as 'not real names'. Hmm

bLooming2 · 10/11/2013 20:22

littlegem12 · 10/11/2013 20:49

bLooming My son is Buddy I got told that when I was preg.

puddleduck16 · 10/11/2013 21:24

Anjou, I'm in the same boat as you with a surname starting with j. I keep missing out all pages on websites starting with"b" just in case I get tempted by any!!!!

bLooming2 · 10/11/2013 21:34

littlegem I absolutely love it and i dont care wt ppl say but husband is having nun of it also love woody and sonny x

FriendlyElephant · 10/11/2013 21:34

Another for Nancy. Although if I have another DD I WILL use it!

Thor for a boy. Not sure I have the balls to use that, though!

littlegem12 · 10/11/2013 21:42

bLooming Sonny was our shortlist with Travis, Rocco and Seth, Woody is cool though I think Zoe Ball has a Woody.

bLooming2 · 10/11/2013 22:01

littlegem you so have my taste I wanted a rocco too but gt told a no xx

Unlikelyamazonian · 11/11/2013 01:22

I had two alternatives for ds: Solly and Milton.

My first choice was Axel but ex husband's surname was along the lines of 'Chassis.'

So it was a no-no.

Axel Chassis? Nope. Couldn't do it to such a gorgeous little fat jolly fella

Then ex husband did a runner. Shame my ds carries his name as a middle name as it is THE most boring name in the universe times ten.

But I did manage to get a court order ridding ds of the 'Chassis'-type surname.

So ds could have been Axel after all if only I had known what a cunt exH actually was.

As it is ds has a fabulous and fitting first name, a shit-boring second name and a pretty god-damn brilliant third name.

His surname is mine. Hurrah.

I expect exH's new children are something like Piss-pong Tang or Wing-Wang Wongla.

TopHatAndTails · 11/11/2013 01:41

Kizzy, Karma, Heaven.

Sid, Gillespie, Davey.

Probably just as well I'm not having any more. Dh liked traditional names eg John and Mary.

SoonToBeSix · 11/11/2013 02:12

Audrey Rose , I love it my dh ( and everyone I know hates it) Out of interest what is the mumsnet consensus?

WowserBowser · 11/11/2013 11:52

I love Audrey! Would consider it for a DD. Think Rose is a bit predictable though.

MrsGSR · 11/11/2013 12:04

Matthew- a good friends name and DHs cousin

Rebecca- my cousin and DHs aunt

We both have massive family's that we are very close to, which rules out about a 100 names, most of which are really nice Angry
