Girls names that are not frilly

So, we have a bit of a list for dc3 but wonder if there is anything else to consider or what you would choose! We already have a Matilda.

Possible options,

Alexandra (with Alex or possibly Sacha as nn)
Rowan
Robyn (but ds best friend is Robin and plays here regularly!)
Wren (bit out there possibly, other 2 dc names are more traditional but we both really like it)
Iris
Elsa
Esme
Hope

Middle names with family connection could be Elizabeth, Olivia, Louisa, or would consider non family names too.

This feels hard as there will definitely not be another baby to name after this one! Will do boys names separately.

A friend of mine has both an Iris and a Wren. I have an Iris so love it. Esme is also nice (would you pronounce Es-may or es-mee?). I don't really like Rowan or Robyn personally. I think Hope is lovely too. Elsa is a bit Born Free but maybe most people won't get that now. I prefer Elsie I think.

Wren is gorgeous. Hope is really lovely too. Iris strikes me as super frilly. What about Roberta, Olive, Geraldine, Gilda.

Calabria · 22/10/2013 20:58

The only Ira I know is female. She's probably mid thirties.

runningonwillpower · 22/10/2013 21:05

The only Iras I've heard of were Ira Levin and Ira Gershwin.

Both blokes.

The least frilly girls' names I can think of are Judith or Rachel - solid biblical names.

Lots of these are gorgeous - think my taste is quite similar to yours. Particularly love Rowan and Elsa, and like all the others except for Esme and Hope. Think I would use Wren as a mn rather than a fn.
