I hereby admit to the following crimes against mumsnet....

b) I like surname-y names as first names e.g. Cooper

b) I think names like Poppy/Daisy are CUTE & perfectly reasonable for a baby/child/respectable adult

c) I love lots of "popular" and top ranked names - I believe they're popular because they're LOVELY names & as such wouldn't dismiss a name based on this...

So come on then girls, who's joining me....?! 'Fess up!! :)

I like lots of popular names. I also often don't like some of the more out there names on here.

I gave my daughter two middle names, which I later learned here is apparently rather non-U...

My daughter's middle name starts with an m, ends in a y and has one vowel in the middle. Practically a swear word from what I've read on here.

I asked for opioins on here and it was all negative so I called my dd the name I wanted anyway :-p

My eldest DD has a name that MN always take the piss out of.

Mind you she was born waaaaay before MN existed

We have a surname name, a hyphenated -ie name and THE most common popular girls name

My DD's full, proper name is a MN fave but her nickname, which she is known by most of the time, is utterly derided on here.
Oh, and her middle name is Rose!

My DD has a name which is usually called "boring" and "samey" here. I also shorten it and would always shorten a DC's name.
I would call a DS Casey over Ptolemy.

I'm afraid I can't go with the surnames as first names trend - I did once come across someone with my (uncommon) maiden name as a first name and it just seemed really odd - like - do you have some connection with my family? I don't know how it is for people with the surname Harrison and Carter!

when we had dd3, if it was a boy we wanted to call him Harrison after DP's mums maiden name and Harry for short after my grandfather, but I'm ashamed to admit the popularity of both put me off! Even so, if we ever had a boy I can't think of anything else I'd want to call him!
People don't really comment on DD3's name (apart from one old lady who thought it was an odd name for a boy! ) but I love it!!!

I have a deep loathing for names that end in y or ie this has a lot to do with my name being shortened and then lengthened again by adding ie.

Me and hubby are expecting a boy and Harrison (nickname Harry) is the only name we like so far

Both of my girls have nice long names which we never really had any intention of using over their cute nicknames.

All 3 of my kids have 2 middle names, Im a proper rebel.

On my Dads side, first son is given Dads first name as a middle name. Unfortunately my Dad had 3 girls so didn't get to carry this on. When I had my eldest I decided if he was a boy he'd have my Dads first name as his middle name. Then DS1 was born on my GGDs birthday so William got thrown in as well.

DD1&2 middle names are after family members. DD2 has my first name as her middle name - ex-DP wanted her first name to be my name. That was a step too far for me haha.

My eldest has a very normal name which is considered dated on the name board.

I like a lot of very popular names (dds was number 2 the year she was born) and ds has 2 middle names, which I didn't know was not the done thing till I read this thread!

My son's initials are AA - both an alliterative crime, and huge risk of him being bullied about alcoholism or car breakdowns (any other combination would clearly have rendered him bully proof).

Not a fan of surname names (esp for girls), but I do like a lot of the very popular names even though I didn't pick them for either child. I agree most of them are popular because they are lovely not just people being unimaginative.

DS1's name is boring, DS2's is "council estate", according to a charming MNer, and DD has a cutesy -ie name with THAT middle name and both names begin with the same letter.

I think people should call their kids what they like and not worry what anyone thinks.

I like really unusual and pretentious names.

Everyone in my family has 2 middle names. DSis2 has 3. So ner.

DD's name doesn't use the most popular spelling.

DD chose her baby brother's name.

DS is named after a cartoon character.

Both dc have two middle names.

One of ds's middle names is poncy as hell.

I find names MNers label 'classic' and 'timeless' and 'beautiful' as dull as a dull thing.

2 of my dc have names with "alternative" spellings. They are actually legitimate spellings in my home country, but I have seen them slagged on here and it is often assumed they are just made up or that we are illiterate.
Oh, and dc3's name, although spelt correctly is apparently wet.

Some people visibly cringe or wince when I tell them DS's name.
