b) I like surname-y names as first names e.g. Cooper

b) I think names like Poppy/Daisy are CUTE & perfectly reasonable for a baby/child/respectable adult

c) I love lots of "popular" and top ranked names - I believe they're popular because they're LOVELY names & as such wouldn't dismiss a name based on this...

All my kids have 2 middle names (as do I).

Their first names are a -y name, a top 5 name, a surname name (for a girl) and a name which is very popular on here, but almost no-one has heard of in real life.

One of the eight middle names is Grace

See I'm in a pickle here, because my beloved, now departed and sorely missed grandmother was called Mai (born in 1920, not a new fangled name), and I would love to use it as a middle name (well, as a second middle name!) But I'll be judged! Whhhhy?

My DDs have the same initial. No traumatic post mix ups yet but we live in fear

They also have names from a country they're not from.

DD2's middle name is not after a family member or my surname (there is actually a recent post about how this is a no no )

My 3 DDs names end with an 'ie' sound. and it was intentional

DD1's name is insipid apparently.
DD2's name is popular but acceptable.
DD3's name has never been commented on on Mumsnet (or I've missed it) I daren't ask for opinions but it's probably a marmite name

DD has 2 middle names, purely because they sounded nice. All 3 of her names were in the top 10 the year she was born.

We've spelt DD's name in an 'alternative' way (it was in the baby name book so obviously a 'real' way). It was the only name we agreed on but neither of us like the traditional spelling as it isn't even vaguely phonetic in english.
I do waver on it occassionally but never for long.
I'm sure I would be shouted down had I risked the baby name board.

Not so much any more, but when he was born all the midwives (I was on postnatal ward for ages) were like or when I said the name. And so was my MIL. Lots of family didn't like it.

Unfortunately it's unusual enough these days to out me. But it was quite common once.

Great thread! if we have a girl she will have a surname first name followed either by a top 5 middle name or by, dare I say it, one of THOSE middle names. If we have a boy he will be called a by a name that is often spelt with a k but we will be using a c and then will have 2 middle names. Both girl and boy names could also be accused of being American which I understand is a big no no as well. Oh well, my baby my choice

Their names are all Top 10, except for DTD1 who has a traditional name. It's in the Top 10 for my home country though. I like the name. It just so happens a lot of people do too. I love their names and I think it's lovely that loads of babies have the name I love too.

I love surname names. Sawyer, Cameron, Oakley, Mason, Taylor etc;

I don't mind or care about hyphenated names. Or names spelt like Rae/Mai/whatever.

I don't like loong or posh names.

I quite like many of the middle names which are thought to be fillers.

2 of my dc have names with "alternative" spellings. They are actually legitimate spellings in my home country, but I have seen them slagged on here and it is often assumed they are just made up or that we are illiterate.
Oh, and dc3's name, although spelt correctly is apparently wet.

DD chose her baby brother's name.

DS is named after a cartoon character.

Both dc have two middle names.

One of ds's middle names is poncy as hell.

I find names MNers label 'classic' and 'timeless' and 'beautiful' as dull as a dull thing.
