Which do you prefer? Tatum (Tate) Natalya (Tully) Alessia (essie)

Opinions and other alternative suggestions appreciated.

Dh wants something substantial on the birth cert so the full names are my compromises.

We will however be using the nicknames primarily from birth.

Surname is 2 syllables 'flowery' type so I didn't want anything too feminine.

Oh and middle name is family name Margaret :)

Of those, I'd prefer Natalya, but with Tasha as the nn.

If you really want to use one of the nns day to day, than I'd go for Alessia/Essie.

What about a unisex (but more widely used on boys) name like Sasha?

Thesimplethings · 20/08/2013 10:15

I like natalya

fanjodisfunction · 20/08/2013 12:01

I like natalya but with the nn Talie.

squoosh · 20/08/2013 12:25

Don't really like any of the nicknames, to be honest I'm not crazy of the full names either but would choose Natalya.

Drop Tully though, it's just awful. Reminds of of Susan Tully aka Michelle from Eastenders.

squoosh · 20/08/2013 12:26

Sasha is gorgeous.

GwendolineMaryLacey · 20/08/2013 12:28

Hate the nicknames, love Natalaya and Margaret, don't like the rest. Well you did ask!

DolomitesDonkey · 20/08/2013 12:32

Natalia, pronounced Talia - although it'll be bastardised and prounced with a flat a. :(

Your nicknames are all dire and scream of try-hard. Well, you did ask!

Teladi · 20/08/2013 12:36

I love Alessia, but I think you'll find she'll end up being Ali to her friends, even if you start with calling her Essie!

night1971 · 20/08/2013 12:47

I don't understand the fixation on nicknames. The names are pretty enough on their own.

Sometimes nick names evolve, sometimes they don't. Sometimes they come about due to other characteristics (physical) or personality traits and have nothing to do with their name.

I would go for the name I like best TBH.

ZolaBuddleia · 20/08/2013 12:57

Essie is the only nickname I like, but I'd come to it from Esther or Cressida.

fanjodisfunction · 20/08/2013 13:23

Good shout zola Cressida is a great name and essi as nn makes perfect sense.

TheBleedinObvious · 20/08/2013 14:06

I quite like Esther but thought it is maybe too granny ish especially with Margaret which is 100% the middle name choice. It does sound like a woman in her 80s.

I don't like sasha or Cressida, but thank you for the suggestions.

I am quite happy with this list, despite the criticisms so I think we have finally found our short list :)

I don't mind if no one likes the middle names or even if they don't stick and I'm the only one using them. I would like to give them a go as I like them.

I would prefer just to use the nicknames myself but dh has convinced me that using more substantial long names has a number of benefits.

As it is I do like the long versions as well, so if she wants to go by that I'm happy anyway.

How about Natasha, nn Tasha?

poocatcherchampion · 20/08/2013 14:14

love Tully. reminds me of a book of the same name I really enjoyed.

Thurlow · 20/08/2013 14:17

Esther Margaret is lovely!

Tattva · 20/08/2013 14:24

Natalya and Alessia are nice enough. Everything else is dire.

I have never seen a positive example of a parent trying to manipulate the nickname from birth. It always ends in frustration (and on one occasion tears).

Choccyhobnob · 20/08/2013 16:07

Think I'm on my own but really like Tatum (but not the nickname Tate)

niffernaffer · 20/08/2013 17:59

Another for (Natalya) Tully Margaret here. Do what you want to do, above all, some of the commentators on these threads can really get you down!

Cassieyellow · 20/08/2013 18:57

You cannot determine nicknames! Makes me shake my head every time people presume they can do this. when child becomes a teenager (or probably longer these days) they Will decide themselves and even then it can change again and again.

Cassieyellow · 20/08/2013 18:58

earlier not longer!

picnicbasketcase · 20/08/2013 19:02

Not at all keen on Tully or Tate, so Alessia / Essie gets my vote. The long name is very pretty and the nn is sweet too.

EhricLovesTeamQhuay · 20/08/2013 19:23

I asked this on your other thread as well but why force the nickname? Tate and tully for a girl are bloody awful anyway but honestly, you should pick a name you like and plan to use and let the nickname evolve from it. Forcing a nickname out of any old random long name is weird.

EhricLovesTeamQhuay · 20/08/2013 19:24

Natalia would be tally not tully. Tatum is heinous. Allessia NN essie is the only one where both names are nice and the nickname actually flows.
