Cool German girls' names?

Hi all

I am pretty fixed on wanting to call our DD Claudia but wondered if I should consider any other names. I seem to like fairly "Germanic" or Scandinavian names. I really like Ingrid but DH hates it and Astrid is a bit too popular where I live.

Claudia and Astrid are both great names. Frieda already mentioned is lovely. Kendra?

DanceLikeJohnTravoltaNow · 16/08/2013 23:09

I like Sabine too, its a lovely name. What about Katja, is that German?

Rhubarbgarden · 16/08/2013 23:10

Caip you laugh but Alien is an actual Dutch name, pronounced 'Alleen'. Not one that travels well.

LifeIsNow · 17/08/2013 06:29

Annika

NapaCab · 17/08/2013 06:49

Good German/Scandinavian names based on Germans I know and like are:

Silke
Solveig
Freya

Bad German names to be avoided like the plague IMHO:

Wiebbke
Meike
Frauke
Anke

Bleurgh...

CecyHall · 17/08/2013 07:20

Sabine was the name of every girl in my German textbooks at school. For that reason I always assumed it was quite a common, neutral name kind of like Jane or Sarah or something. That puts me off but that's just me (and I might be entirely wrong!)

Gobbolinothewitchscat · 17/08/2013 07:23

Anneliese - German

Elin - Scandinavian

Malin - Scandinavian

MoreThanWords · 17/08/2013 07:25

Not German, but:

Mette (pr. Medda)
Mariska
Trine

ComtesseDeFrouFrou · 17/08/2013 07:50

I have German friends called Johanna (yo-hanna) and Marlene (mar-len-uh, but she has to put up with mar-lean a lot)

CruCru · 17/08/2013 08:01

See I rather like Anke but DH won't.

Claudia is a beautiful name!

I work with a German Doctor called Elke (pronounced "Elcar" which I quite like too?
