Cool German girls' names?

Hi all

I am pretty fixed on wanting to call our DD Claudia but wondered if I should consider any other names. I seem to like fairly "Germanic" or Scandinavian names. I really like Ingrid but DH hates it and Astrid is a bit too popular where I live.

I have a friend called Elke (pronounced Elkie). I love her name.

Gertrud, Brunhilde, Wilhelmina, Trauthilde and Anneliese are very very old-fashioned and I am not sure anybody calls their girls those names nowadays.

Maybe one of these:

Nele
Lena
Franziska (short version is Franzi)
Mette
Kristin
Bente
Lea
Inga

Hey Crucru, most of these names are so NOT cool and are truly awful in the sense of sounding dated, sounding very typical of specific generation.
Lots of names mentioned here are...I'm lost for words.

I think mostly spot on are mummaemma and MissWimpy Smile if you're serioulsy considering names which are cool and yet timeless and cannot be pin-pointed too much to a certain social or age group. But maybe you want that, than please disregard my post Grin

worldcitizen · 31/08/2013 15:43

Oh, and like MagicKey's list as well Smile
