so after lots of discussion and shortlists and vetos we have a list of names both dh and i are ok with (no small feat, our tastes in girls names are pretty opposite)

but now it comes to choosing one im wavering. theyre all ok but i dont LOVE them and i have drawbacks wih each.

so ive turned to MN, tell me why theyre fab and help me fall in love with one?

middle name will be a family name which sounds like Annie. last name starts with an S.

the shortlist is;

Emmeline
Ingrid
Juliet/Juliette

Juliet is gorgeous!!

MortifiedAdams · 06/08/2013 20:30

Juliet! Love it!

Mrsindecision · 06/08/2013 20:32

Juliet

ImaginaryHat · 06/08/2013 20:34

Juliet/Juliette is beautiful

BlueStarsAtNight · 06/08/2013 20:35

I like them all but think Juliet is so pretty, and if you aren't keen on Jules then her initials would be JAS which is a cool nn!

What are your drawbacks that you are worried about? Maybe we can help you dispel them?

Littlecherublegs · 06/08/2013 20:36

Another vote for Juliet!

insanityscratching · 06/08/2013 20:38

Juliet is lovely, I don't care for Ingrid because it's quite a hard sounding name and Emmeline is too long for me although I know an Emmeline and she is a delightful little girl.

Confitdecanard · 06/08/2013 20:40

Yes, I love Juliet too. Ingrid would be my second choice.

BikeRunSki · 06/08/2013 20:46

Juliet ! Pretty name, nice literary reference, cool abbreviation to Jules.

littlealien01 · 06/08/2013 20:47

thats a lot of juliet votes! but why?

do love the jas thing so well spotted :)

we were set on emmeline but im starting to think theyll spend their life saying "no not emily emmeline" or not emma-line emma-leen.

Ingrid- lovely for an older child but too harsh for baby, hard to shorten, and i keep getting "reminds me of hagrid"

juliet/juliette- we dont agree on spelling, i dont like jules, we have a friend called julie and it might seem as if it was after her

but im nit picking. weve gone through a lot of names (and except the ones dh vetoed) we keep coming back to these.

I have an Emmeline and can honestly say that we continually correct for Emily - it pretty much happens every time she is introduced to someone new. I must admit, I would have probably chosen differently had I realised how frequently it would happen and how annoying I would find it! As you also mention, there is often confusion over the pronunciation with it regularly being pronounced to rhyme with "mine" rather than "keen", another thing that I find irritating! In short, I would only advocate going with it if you really love it and are happy to correct people ALOT.

Summerfever · 06/08/2013 21:17

BTW, I love the name Juliet, but rather annoyingly one of my siblings got there first with using it!

And, FWIW, Juliet is NOTHING like Julie, totally different names with a completely different vibe! Smile

Lanceolate · 06/08/2013 21:20

Juliet is lovely.

PinkGlove · 06/08/2013 21:26

Emmeline.

So difficult to 'love' names. I always say I know what names I don't like but don't know which ones I love!

elQuintoConyo · 06/08/2013 22:00

Juliet, with that

Hassled · 06/08/2013 22:04

I think you need to start all over again. You don't need a bunch of internet strangers convincing you to love a name - you need to just love the name. Is your DD here yet? If not, wait and see what she looks like.

littlealien01 · 06/08/2013 22:05

@summerfever thats exactly what i worry about with emmeline, especially with so many emily's around. I really loved it to start with (long before i was pg) but recently the practicalities are bugging me. we also dont like emmey as a nickname particularly, thanks for commenting so I know its not just in my head. it goes so well with the middle name though, and is strong but feminine amd versatile. I just wish people would reliably spell and pronounce it.

@coconutty i love emma but our last name ends in a "ya" sound that means it doesnt go well with names which end in a. most of which i like. dh also doesnt like it.

is the julie - juliet thing really a non issue i just need to get over?

@hassled we have lots of time but def want some names planned for when they arrive. might even be a boy yet (boys names are more easily agreed on it seems)

generally the ones i really love dh hates and vice versa. these are the top 3 we could both be happy with ( we do have a longer list but these are still both of our fave 3 on it (partly due to what goes with the middle name we like)

Juliette! It is my niece's name - I only wish I'd got there first. Smile

Summerfever · 06/08/2013 22:27

littlealien01, she also gets called "Emmy" a lot, so another thing to consider if you don't it as a nickname!

KittenofDoom · 06/08/2013 22:29

Juliet - but another variation is Julianne which is unusual. I like Julia best but your surname rules that out.

98percentchocolate · 06/08/2013 22:34

Really love Juliet - either spelling is lovely. Juliette is very feminine.

Carolra · 06/08/2013 22:36

I went to school with an Emmeline, she was lovely, probably the nicest girl I was friends with. The family moved away and so we lost touch but I've never forgotten her! I wanted to call dd Emmeline but dh didn't like it...

Juliet is lovely too. Maybe wait till you meet her to choose!
