More masculine girls names...

We have two girls both with short, feminine but strong names- think Thea, Edie etc. If we have another girl I would like to choose something a bit less girly. IYSWIM

I've been thinking...
Frankie- any other long names for this nn other than Frances?

Eliette (wild card- pronounced Elliot)
Cleo?! (Cleona)
Charlie (DP does not like Charlotte- I love it, any other long names?)

Not a fan of the Ellie-Mae, Gracie-Lou kind of names (sorry). Do not like Sam, Max or Robyn for a girl

I had a friend call her girl Toni and she regretted it. She said she'd wished she'd givern her a 'full' name and used that as a NN

I would like to use a long name too, I think when you have names like Will or Dot it's nice to have a longer, proper name too.
I know someone who's just named their baby boy Bob, just Bob!

George is lovely too, would depend on the girl but it's nice to have Georgia, which is very feminine.

Does anyone think Cleo is a pet name? DP said it's a name for a pet not a baby

I've just googled Billie Whitelaw and she seems to be just 'Billie'.

I have a Bob short for Annabel, dont ask sigh.

Had a cat called Cleo.

Harry or Hal are nice nn for Harriet and if she turns out to be girly whirly then she could be Hattie, Hetty... Hmmmm....

Boys are sorted by the way as DP has a family name that runs down the boys, a little normal, Daniel Jack Smith sort of thing but I'll call him Junior anyway...

read a book with a character Hedda which I kind of liked but football connotations too much for me...

There are lots of lovely suggestions already here, my only word of caution would be - if you have 2 DDs with feminine names & then give DD3 a masculine name, will people be forever asking her if her parents wanted a boy?

It crossed my mind as it happened with a friend of mine (she's called Jordan & is older than "the" Jordan BTW).

I love Petra after one of the girls in the book Ballet Shoes but DH doesn't!

You're right Lazy, I would hate for people to think that DD was unwanted (if she even is dd).
I'd like to have a feminine longer name that can shorten to something less girly for that reason. For all I know she could be the pinkest, fluffiest, floaty thing going which is why I wouldn't choose a name like Scout.

Liking Billie a lot now it's been mentioned and although quite boyish has a cute girly feel too, Frankie's still up there...

I didn't focus on a name for DD1 as I was so scarred that the pregnancy wasn't real or wouldn't last (had a friend who tragically lost newborn on day of birth) DSD was already named when I came along! DD1 was nameless for 2 weeks...
I'm really enjoying looking at names this time round and discussing them on here with people, I never did any of this last time around....

My little sister's name is Billie-Jade. After my dad (William)... Totally just outed myself!
I like the name Billie but I think the Jade part was indicative of the 80's... I wouldn't do the hyphenated thing now days.

I can imagine DP's face when I tell him that I'm considering Billie for a girl "No daughter of mine's going to be named Billy..."

He's more in the girly names for girls camp- he wanted to call DD1 Petal (sorry, but no way) I think it was a skunk from Bambi with that name....
