More masculine girls names...

MadBannersAndCopPorn · 06/08/2013 14:02

We have two girls both with short, feminine but strong names- think Thea, Edie etc. If we have another girl I would like to choose something a bit less girly. IYSWIM

I've been thinking...
Frankie- any other long names for this nn other than Frances?
Cameron- nn Cami
Joss
Jude
Jules
Eliette (wild card- pronounced Elliot)
Cleo?! (Cleona)
Charlie (DP does not like Charlotte- I love it, any other long names?)

Not a fan of the Ellie-Mae, Gracie-Lou kind of names (sorry). Do not like Sam, Max or Robyn for a girl

Thanks

Love Jude and Charlie

HorrorCow · 06/08/2013 16:31

Frankie could also be short for Francine and Willow could be shortened to Billie.

MortifiedAdams · 06/08/2013 16:35

Georgina / Georgia - George
Stephanie - Stevie
Alexis / Alexandra - Alex
Roberta - Bobbie

whyno · 06/08/2013 17:15

I had a masculine girls name and, as quite a girly little girl, I hated it. Maybe something to consider? Might be worth having something that can be adapted to suit her if she's more girly?

whyno · 06/08/2013 17:23

Ah just read your pp and you've already thought of that, sorry!

insanityscratching · 06/08/2013 17:25

Phillipa nn Pip
Roberta nn Bob
Samantha nn Sam
Michaela nn Mickey

My friend's dd's have masculine names (some of those above), they are late teens early twenties now and they hate them and always have especially in their early teens when they were teased about their sexuality because of them. Funnily enough her boys have girly names Hmm or rather names that you assume are for girls first.

fanjodisfunction · 06/08/2013 19:07

Matilda - Matty
Nicola- Niky
Natalia- Nat
Martine- Marty
Andrea - Andi

MadBannersAndCopPorn · 06/08/2013 19:08

Ooooooooooh, Loving the idea of Willow- nn Billie! Good shout!
That's the problem horror I'd hate my child to be teased because of her name, or hate it herself. I want something socially acceptable, classless and not too difficult to write. If I had my own way I'd use Olive but I think she'd get teased.
So bloody hard!

Francesca/ Francine-Frankie
Willow- Billie
Jocelyn (although a bit of a faff to spell)- Joss
These are my big 3, I think!

Ursula, Una, not masculine names but not girly names. My cousin has a girl called Cameron.

thegreylady · 06/08/2013 19:11

I love all of those MadB

MadBannersAndCopPorn · 06/08/2013 19:23

Una- Lovely name- reminds me of Bridget Jones "Just stir it Una..."
It's too similar to dd's name to use though

How about Erica? You can use Ricky as a nn (and if she turns out to be a really girly girl, then Erica is the latin for Heather).

ellesabe · 06/08/2013 19:52

I have a Cleo so obviously love it.

The only other name we toyed with was Astrid...

LindaMcCartneySausage · 06/08/2013 19:57

I know ladies called Morgan. I always liked it.

The Billie I know was Christened "Elizabeth". Not sure how that came about, but Billie is a nice name.

Charlie, short for Charlotte?

Layl77 · 06/08/2013 20:35

Henrietta
Ellis
Eden
Stevie
Frances
Matilda nn mattie

BlueStarsAtNight · 07/08/2013 04:30

I like Billie, but would use Belinda rather than Willow for the long name, as I think it's really pretty and under used!

ThisIsYourSong · 07/08/2013 06:21

I love Rohan / Rowan

Billie is great for a girl!

Inertia · 07/08/2013 06:33

I've heard of Ellis being used for boys and girls.

Sometimes ambiguous names like that can lead to the child being called Girl Ellis and Boy Ellis if there are two of them .
