Eliza - lovely! Not too popular
Elizabeth - see Alexandra above!

Alexandra - staid and stuffy
Charlotte - OK but pretty boring
Eliza - love it
Elizabeth - quite like it
Emma - a bit dated, dull
Sophia - lovely, but I don't like Sophie, and I'd think people would call her that.

MrsMarigold · 05/08/2013 14:54

Alexandra - great a classic - love
Charlotte - another great classic - love
Eliza - lukewarm (I know a few children called Eliza)
Elizabeth - Good (it's my own child's middle name)
Emma - Boring but I love Jane Austen's Emma so plus points
Sophia - Not a big fan it is so ubiquitous, when I registered my DC the registrar told me that Sophia/Sophie and other derivatives are the most common name given to babies in Camden

Keztrel · 05/08/2013 15:03

Alexandra - it's ok, and I like the nicknames that come from it- Alex, Lexie etc.
Charlotte - classic, sounds grownup and intelligent, love it, hate Lottie though
Eliza - gorgeous
Elizabeth - very nice - love Eliza, Beth and Lizzie nicknames
Emma - sweet, bit dull
Sophia - quite like it, much prefer it to Sophie, which sounds a bit soft and nothingy.

wigglesrock · 05/08/2013 15:06

Alexandra - I like, but I know quite a few under 10 - Alexs all girls.

Charlotte - I love this

Eliza - I have no idea why, but I just can't warm to Eliza, but that's just a completely personal thing - I prefer Elsa or Elise.

Elizabeth - it's nice but I'm not a fan of any of its nicknames.

Emma - lovely, but again I know quite a few, there are 4 in the baby/toddler group I go to.

Sophia - I have an 8 year old Sofia, it's not as common where I live. She gets Fia as a nickname.

Sparklysilversequins · 05/08/2013 15:23

Alexandra - my favourite girls name, I have one Smile.
Charlotte - like it, but there's a lot of them about.
Emma - love it was a serious contender for dd.
Sophia - have just never really liked it to be honest.
Eliza - too old fashioned for me.
Elizabeth - ditto and I don't like Liz or Lizzie as nick names.

Onyabike · 05/08/2013 15:45

Alexandra - like this in its full form, but not keen on nn Alex for a girl
Charlotte - lovely name, elegant and feminine
Eliza - not keen
Elizabeth - not keen as a first name as it's a bit dowdy and I'm not wild about its nn's. A good middle name though.
Emma - a bit too plain, but pleasant enough
Sophia - a beautiful and historic name - my favourite from your list

jackjacksmummy · 05/08/2013 15:51

Alexandra - love it - we have the boy version but love seeing little girls also called Alex

jackjacksmummy · 05/08/2013 15:53

Charlotte - my next favourite
Eliza - reminds me of Eliza Doolittle cartoon when I was younger - okish!
Elizabeth - ok but not lizzy/lizzie!
Sophia - mmmmm no
Emma - boring....

MadameJosephine · 05/08/2013 16:01

In order of preference:

Elizabeth - my second favourite girls name ever (DD has my favourite). Ticks all the boxes for me, loads of lovely nn options to fit a little girl, a teenager, an adult and an old lady, my personal favourite is Libby

Eliza - lovely, old fashioned and reminds me of my fair lady which is one of my favourite films

Sophia - beautiful but becoming very popular

Charlotte - ok, lottie is cute

Emma - plain, not keen

Alexandra - don't like it, sorry. too formal, don't like Alex as nn

superdupermama · 05/08/2013 16:17

Alexandra like it as a full name but all the Alexandras I know are called Alex or Lexi and I don't like either
Charlotte like Charlotte and Lottie but not Charley for nn
Eliza Like but prefer Elizabeth
Elizabeth See above
Emma Like but a bit 70's I think
Sophia Like a lot and not popular round here and is the name of dd's hamster Grin

superdupermama · 05/08/2013 16:48

I agree with majority that Emma is a bit 70s/80s, even though it's nice it's a "no". I forgot about the other name Ella, so included it with the list below:

Alexandra
Charlotte
Eliza
Elizabeth
Ella (as a nickname for Elizabeth)
Sophia

Alexandra - ok but not as nice as Alexander for a boy.
Charlotte - love this, it sounds nice in most accents, and like Charlie or Lottie nn.
Eliza - ok, but sounds unfinished, like parent couldn't be bothered to name her Elizabeth
Elizabeth - love this, just so classic. Not a very exciting name, but so many wonderful nn options.
Emma - I don't find it 70/80s. I much prefer it to Emily, and know a baby Emma and it's really grown on me as a simple yet classy name.
Sophia - boring. I know loads, and loathe hearing the older ones called 'Soph' by their friends.
Ella - don't like the meaning, and there seem to be loads of small ones.

OrlaNuttin · 05/08/2013 18:09

Alexandra - I like it, but I prefer Alexander for boys
Charlotte - nice, and not too many around at the moment
Eliza - shudder, I really dislike it. Sounds like you're having a whinge when it's said out loud. A harsh name.
Elizabeth - I love it.
Emma - I really like Emma, I think it has a very warm sound.
Sophia - I quite like it, but love it with an Italian accent!
Ella - nice (not as a nn for Elizabeth though). Was quite popular a couple of years ago (along with Ellie, Eleanor etc) and I taught a lot.

hatsybatsy · 05/08/2013 18:37

Alexandra -no. Alex is a very masculine nn and Alexandra is quite a mouthful in itself.
Charlotte - ok - Lottie and Lotta are nice nicknames?
Eliza - ok
Elizabeth - timeless and lots of lovely nn
Emma - timeless
Sophia - not so keen - prefer Sophie

Saffyz · 05/08/2013 18:38

Alexandra - nice classic name, not so keen on Alex/Lexie though
Charlotte - OK
Eliza - too nicknamey
Elizabeth - OK, a classic
Emma - like, pretty but not overdone
Sophia - like, classic with a nice meaning

ellesabe · 05/08/2013 19:48

In order of preference...

Eliza - love this! Sounds carefree (in a good way)
Charlotte - pretty name
Emma - my sister's name so I like it. Elegant.
Sophia - A bit too popular for me at the moment
Elizabeth - more of a middle name IMO
Alexandra - I have never liked this name but have never been able to put my finger on why!

ineedtogetoutmore · 05/08/2013 20:14

Alexander - its a Lovely name that suits children / adults of all ages. Some people will shorten it to Alex which is still a lovely name but i know some parents don't like shortened versions of names, Ive never minded myself. The only thing to bear in mind is its becoming quite popular name but again this only bothers some parents.

Charlotte - a pretty name that again suits all ages. Can again be shortened to Charlie, Lottie etc.

Eliza - Quirkier than the other names I'd imagine a cute/mischievous girl with this name.

Elizabeth - doesn't sound as much 'fun' to me as the other names but that's just my opinion

Emma a really sunny summery name again another pretty name

Sophia - my personal favorite on your list. very pretty but classy, it can't really be shortened incase shortened names bother you. it's not a overly popular name but popular enough.
