Alexandra - lovely, but don't like the almost inevitable nn 'Alex' for a girl
Charlotte - like it. Also like Lottie, but not Charlie as nn's.
Eliza - I hear 'Dolittle' but do like the name
Elizabeth - timeless, classic, elegant with lots of great nn possibilities
Emma - OK, but much prefer Emily
Sophia - v pretty, really love it.

Alexandra - Okay. I like Alex for a girl, it's a bit boring though.
Charlotte - Meh. My name. You can't walk down the street at the moment without falling over several 3 year old Charlottes. Or worse, Lotties. I'm a Charlie. I detest Lottie.
Eliza - Okay, not my taste.
Elizabeth - I prefer Elisabeth. Not keen on Ella as a nn, there seem to be so many Ellies/Ellas/Elles etc. I don't like Liz/Lizzie either. Beth, Bess, Betsy, Effie, Elsie or Elspeth are lovely though.
Emma - okay.
Sophia - Much prefer Sophie. Makes me think of the BFG.

I think my favourite would be Elizabeth/Elisabeth nn Effie.

You have both my first and middle names on your list OP!

Alexandra - like this, I especially love Alex as nn for a girl
Charlotte - lovely, classic, strong but feminine
Eliza - my favourite of your list, bit quirky sounding but still strong yet pretty
Elizabeth - least favourite from your list, bit dull
Emma - like this, yes there are a lot of 1970s vintage Emmas but it's a classic (think Jane Austen)
Sophia - pretty sounding but not as substantial as some of your other ideas

Mrsindecision · 06/08/2013 20:38

Order of preference:
Sophia
Charlotte
Alexandra
Emma
Elizabeth
Eliza/Ella

These aren't really my style (I tend to veer towards the slightly more unusual!) but I don't think you can really go wrong with any of them.

Alexandra - growing on me. Quite regal and distinguished, but can easily be shortened. Not keen on Lexi etc though.
Charlotte - dullsville. Overdone now.
Eliza - really like this - can be either elegant and poised, or quirky and tomboyish. Think it's rapidly heading up the popularity charts, though.

Elizabeth - a bit 'safe' for me, but loads of nickname options to perk it up a bit.
Emma - again, a bit 'safe' but pretty and it's not actually that popular nowadays - only know of one under 10. More common in my age group (early 30s) I think?
Sophia - lovely name, but it's been done to death now. Think it deserves a rest!

Top 3 would be Alexandra, Eliza and Emma

CharlieBoo · 06/08/2013 20:54

Eliza by far the nicest name on the list! Agree Sophia is so overdone! Every other girl here is Sophia with the other ones being Lily or Isabelle/a. Eliza is gorgeous.

Fluffy1234 · 06/08/2013 20:54

Emma is the best name.

toobreathless · 06/08/2013 21:00

LOVE them all!

Especially Alexandra & Elizabeth, they all scream classic, timeless and elegant to me.

My least favourite is Eliza but only because I think it could date in a way the others won't, it seems to be having a bit of a boom at the moment.

formicadinosaur · 07/08/2013 23:48

Charlotte and Elizabeth are lovely. You get tons of lovely nicknames. Lottie, betsy, Eliza, bess, Betty

formicadinosaur · 08/08/2013 06:32

You could have elisabeth and elspeth and have nick name Eliza

WeAll · 08/08/2013 08:40

Elizabeth, then Charlotte, then Alexandra.

I like Eliza but Elizabeth lets you have that as a nn anyway!

superdupermama · 08/08/2013 17:36

Thank you girls! Narrowed down a little bit...

Alexandra
Charlotte
Eliza/Elizabeth
Sophia

What is your favourite? Many thanks!!!

Sophia is my favourite from your list

kiwik · 09/08/2013 02:09

Alexandra - love it. Plenty of shortenings available too.
Charlotte - bit dull and was name of school bully
Eliza - a shortening, not a name
Elizabeth - seems to be growing in popularity recently - know of several in the last year or so. But plenty of shortenings, so lots of scope for variety
Emma - meh, bit bland
Sophia - not keen on Sophia or Sophie
