And which spelling? Yasemin, Yasemine, Yasmin - all pronounced with a SSS (YaSS) sound not a zzz sound (Yaz).

I don't care for it

cantreachmytoes · 23/07/2013 22:48

Yasmin for "yassmin"
Yasmine for "yassmeen"

To be fair, the ss vs zz sound might be one that's ignored a bit by some people as native English speakers often don't really hear the difference.

oohdaddypig · 23/07/2013 22:51

I don't like it - because it sounds a bit yuk with myths "y" at the start. I'm a bit odd about names and how they look

I like jasmine....

themonsteratemyspacebar · 23/07/2013 22:52

Id like it, but its the name of my contraceptive pill....but still do like it Smile

Blondie1984 · 23/07/2013 22:52

That's the name of my contraceptive pill....so not for me

What the suffering fuck. She was from a low income family?

It's a nice name. I'd go with Yasmin.

My pill is called Cerazette, which is also nice, maybe a middle name or for your next child.

looki · 23/07/2013 22:59

I know of one child with this name and she is a dark haired, sallow skinned pretty little girl (so I associate the name only with dark haired children)....I prefer to keep spellings simple so I'd spell it Yasmin.

I like it but with my accent I can't say 'YaSSmin' I know of 2 and there both pronounced 'YaZZmin'

veiledsentiments · 23/07/2013 23:31

My daughter's middle name. Spelt yasmine. We never say it, but I would say Yas - meen. But Arabic influence

lljkk · 23/07/2013 23:33

I know a small Yasmin, her mother is the town mayoress so about as anti-chav as they come. Confuses me what with all the Jasmin's around.

The 2 moms of Logans I know: one well-educated NCT-activist and the other too snobby to talk to me.

Yasmin is lovely, quite classy

scottishmummy · 23/07/2013 23:39

I would say yas-min soft s.not hard not a yazzzz-min pronunciation
SOft s

BungleGeorgeAndZippy · 24/07/2013 06:05

Thank you for your opinions. We are of Arabic origin if that makes any difference. The contraceptive pill name doesnt bother me neither does the low income family comment. That sounds ridiculous to me.

Love it - it is a graceful name. I know 2 Yasmin's, both golden skinned, pretty, intelligent, self contained.

pinkmagic1 · 24/07/2013 06:19

I love it but then it is my dd's name! We have an Arab background too but it is a name that works in both cultures so great in that respectStuff the low income comment. Do be prepared for lots of people thinking your dd is called Jasmin though!

Jasmine is prettier, unless you are from an Asian/Arabic background, then Yasmin. Don't go for any silly spellings. Just keep it simple and easy to pronounce.

Wbdn28 · 24/07/2013 10:06

Much prefer Jasmine.

WafflyVersatile · 24/07/2013 11:35

The Yasmin I know has written a book, met presidents, headed high profile national campaigns, appeared on tv a number of times, been described by my mate as 'amazing woman' and is about to write another book.

This will happen to your child if you call her Yasmin, for sure.

rockybalboa · 24/07/2013 11:41

I would pronounce Yasmin "yazz-min" not Yass-min. I prefer the simpler spelling. It sounds like a rather exotic name.
