Have been discussing this one for a girl with dh. Possibly for a middle name rather than a first.

But what do people think?

Awful! Sorry!

BunnyLebowski · 01/07/2013 15:46

Are you National Lampoon fans?

It's a horrible, horrible name.

Moominsarehippos · 01/07/2013 15:47

Isn't that one of the Ugly Sisters? Not the prettiest names. Is it a family one?

Littlefish · 01/07/2013 15:50

Very hard name. Sounds too like Grizzle

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 01/07/2013 15:50

Gristle, Grizzly, Grisly - none have very nice connotations I'm afraid. How about Esmerelda?

Saturnalia · 01/07/2013 15:54

Thanks so far for your comments.

Yes, it does have a connection for us, so I'd like to fit it in somewhere. I'm not keen on Esmeralda, but thank you.

Sorry, no I haven't watched the National Lampoon films. I'm guessing it's one of the characters?

Not very nicesounding - like ugly sister druzelda or whatever!

squoosh · 01/07/2013 15:56

Please don't do it.

I can't think of one positive thing to say about this name. It's so spiky and abrasive.

Dackyduddles · 01/07/2013 15:57

Well I suppose she would certainly be the only one in the class....

It is an ugly sister name. I'd avoid for that alone. Not fair.

Moominsarehippos · 01/07/2013 15:58

Maybe a variation (I googled):

Chriselda, Gricelda, Gricelle, Gricely, Grisel, Griseldis, Grisell, Griselle, Griselly, Grishelda, Grishilde, Grissele, Grissell, Grizel, Grizelda, Gryselde, Gryzelde, Selda, Zelda

Or give it as a first and go with a nicer nickname?

Rhubarbgarden · 01/07/2013 16:19

I like it.

Saturnalia · 01/07/2013 16:20

We'd be using nick name Zelda if we decided to use it for a first name.

OP posts:
Elquota · 01/07/2013 16:27

Zelda is nicer than Griselda IMHO. It's the "grizz" sound which I don't like (grizzle etc.)

squoosh · 01/07/2013 16:28

Oh Zelda is pretty, as long as you don't mind the Zelda Fitzgerald connection.

ChocsAwayInMyGob · 01/07/2013 16:29

It's a very ugly sounding name. I don't think there's ever going to be a revival.

Moominsarehippos · 01/07/2013 16:34

Wasn't Zelda the one in Terrorhawks?

Cloudkitten · 01/07/2013 16:43

Are you acually joking? It is a wind-up? If not then this name suggestion must surely be in the "the more ugly and odd then the more egggclusive it makes it sound" competition. I make no apologies for the critisism. It's peposterous, pretentious and ugly in equal parts.

CheeseStrawWars · 01/07/2013 16:43

Are you Legend of Zelda fans? Each to their own, but Griselda is not pleasant to my ear.

patienceisvirtuous · 01/07/2013 16:47

Truly awful sounding name. Please don't inflict that on your dd.

Oblomov · 01/07/2013 17:02

Vile. Nasty. Reminds me of gristle. Yuk. Err why?

VanitasVanitatum · 01/07/2013 17:04

That was my mum's alternate name for my sister when she was in a temper when we were kids!

Pobblewhohasnotoes · 01/07/2013 17:12

Horrible. Possibly one of the least pretty names there is.

Elquota · 01/07/2013 17:15

What are Terrorhawks, Legend of Zelda and National Lampoon? What percentage of people know what they are and whether there's a Griselda/Zelda in them?

NigellasGuest · 01/07/2013 17:21

when DD is whingeing I call her a Griselda-GrizzleGuts.
