Which name? Tessa, Electra or Soraya?

Hi. We are down to three names: Tessa, Electra, or Soraya pronounced with 'ray' not 'rye'. I also love Medea but too much like DD's name.

Last name is Spanish and ends with 'a' so names with 'a' ending seem to work.

All opinions welcomed!!

I'm a big fan of Tessa; not so much Electra, and I've never encountered Soraya before and am not keep.

Maribel's my favourite Spanish name fwiw Grin

BackforGood · 23/06/2013 13:01

Of those, I only like Tessa.

noblegiraffe · 23/06/2013 13:04

Tessa, because it is the most normal.

Electra didn't have a great family life from what I remember of the myth. Also, reminiscent of that crap Daredevil film so people will spell it wrong with a k.

ifancyashandy · 23/06/2013 13:05

Soraya, then Tessa.

Electra is a bit too 'stripper' for me.

williaminajetfighter · 23/06/2013 13:05

Shit, Daredevil, I forgot. Ditto Carmen Electra. Sigh!!

TwasBrillig · 23/06/2013 13:06

Only Tessa from that list.

combinearvester · 23/06/2013 13:12

Erm isn't Electra the equivalent of calling your son Oedipus? Or have I remembered that wrong...
Medea killed her kids right?

What the hell did Soraya do then Grin

Sanjifair · 23/06/2013 13:26

I like Tessa best. I like Soraya too, but will she continually have to correct people's pronounciation? I would say Sor - eye- ah if you hadn't mentioned it.

williaminajetfighter · 23/06/2013 13:30

I know... Electra complex etc. sadly very few in Greek mythology come out unscathed!!

Penelope does ok in the long run, struggling to think of any others!

fussychica · 23/06/2013 16:26

Tessa for me.
How about Samira, Alanna, Alicia, Elvira or Cara

Love love love Tessa

zingally · 23/06/2013 19:56

I only like Tessa of those. The rest are too... "out there". Electra is chavvy stripper and Soraya is... not nice sounding.

Imscarlet · 23/06/2013 20:02

I like Tessa the best out of those, but I don't think it is a strong name.

YoungBritishPissArtist · 23/06/2013 20:04

Is Soraya a Spanish name? I've only known Sorayas who are Persian/Arabic in ancestry and they all pronounced it Sor - eye - a.

If you pronounced it 'ray', you may have to correct people a lot.

FetaCheeny · 23/06/2013 20:05

Only Tessa, Soraya sounds like surveyer to me, and Electra is stripperish. I would prefer Soraya pronounced Sor-eye-ah.

Rhubarbgarden · 23/06/2013 20:06

Tessa.

Hashtagwhatever · 23/06/2013 20:09

Soraya ive never heard but very pretty.

Dont know why electra sounds a bit stripperish.

changechangechange · 23/06/2013 20:16

Soraya.

williaminajetfighter · 23/06/2013 20:22

Thx everyone. I think it's going to be back to the drawing board for me.

Soraya I prefer as 'ray-a' but you're right -- it's generally pronounced SoRYEah which is, sadly, too much like psoriasis. Electra now sounds less like cool artist and more like stripper superhero and Tessa I still like but may be a bit wet.

Frig. It'll probably end up being Isabella or Evie or ADD MOST POPULAR GIRL NAME OF THE YEAR HERE....
