Thoughts on Violet Octavia

I like the name very much but am wondering about it becoming a bit popular like Lilly and poppy have as I'm not especially keen on very popular names unless its a family name traditional thing.

So what do you reckon?

That's what I thought too Meow! I really like the name Violet but it does bring to mind Violet Beauregarde..."Violet, you're turning violet!"

Rtfairy · 20/06/2013 08:34

I like Violet but not with Octavia

SignoraStronza · 20/06/2013 10:43

Skoda don't do that colour do they?
Wink
Sorry op. Love both the names, just not together.

KnittedWaffle · 20/06/2013 10:54

I really like Violet but think Violet Octavia sounds like she's out of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

And not in a good way.

KnittedWaffle · 20/06/2013 10:55

Didn't see your post Meow! Completely agree with you.

UpTheFRIGGinDuff · 20/06/2013 11:07

I love it Grin

JaquelineHyde · 20/06/2013 11:16

I love Octavia, although it is the name of a Skoda.

I don't like Violet as much purely because it just makes me think of a nasty spoilt brat of a child. Blame Charlie and the Chocolate Factory for that.

AnythingNotEverything · 20/06/2013 11:22

Love it. Violet is my name of choice for my second girl... If we get there!

ShabbyButNotChic · 20/06/2013 12:32

I love love love violet!! I only know 2 in real life, one a gorgeous squishy 6month old (middle name evelyn) and the other is my great aunt violet (91 and still going strong). I think its lovely as its a feminine name without being overly 'frilly'

ShabbyButNotChic · 20/06/2013 12:35

Not keen on octavia though sorry...makes me think of the car...btw my aunts full name is violet florence, always thought they sounded nice together :)

ladymontdore · 20/06/2013 12:41

I'm afraid my first thought was of Violet Elizabeth Bott too. Not sure why as it is a different name. Like others have said they are both nice names and flow well together but just wrong in a rather undefinable way! Perhaps because they both have obvious but unconnected meanings?

mrsfuzzy · 20/06/2013 12:42

dr octavia was a baddie in the marvel comics and he had morphed in an octopus type thing and hideous looking with it to boot! sorry, name isn't my cup of tea. love the name violet though, it's pretty and dainty just like the flower lovely colour too.

moreyear · 20/06/2013 12:44

I know about 50 two year old Violets and even more babies. It's very upsetting because I really wanted to call my fantasy second daughter that:)

IneedAsockamnesty · 20/06/2013 13:23

So what do we think if we have them the other way round?

OP posts:
Sanjifair · 20/06/2013 18:30

I like both names. I know a Violet known as Veevee.

rockybalboa · 20/06/2013 19:04

LOVE Violet!!

coffeeinbed · 20/06/2013 19:07

I like them separately or even Octavia Violet
Violet Octavia sounds like you're describing a car.

coffeeinbed · 20/06/2013 19:09

Or Vivien Octavia
to avoid the descriptive element

jalapeno · 20/06/2013 20:38

Oh I just posted in another thread that I love Octavia. I'm hoping to sneak it in as a middle name if we have a girl this time (DH not keen!) but would go with something "plainer" like Katherine as the first name. Violet I love too but together they sound a bit too...can't describe it but with lots of money and living in Hampstead if you see what I mean?

I really think since you have a family connection you should use Octavia [mile]

Does your OH like the names together?

jalapeno · 20/06/2013 20:39

Oops that should be a Smile not a mile!

mrsfuzzy · 20/06/2013 20:47

at least you are open to ideas rather than bounding on the names that just sound down right chavy, i feel sorry for some kids having to live with teaseable names, you'll make the right choice for you dd.

IneedAsockamnesty · 20/06/2013 21:11

Jalapeño I don't live in Hampstead but I will be giving birth in the Portland and more than likely arriving by helicopter Wink

nectarini1983 · 20/06/2013 21:33

Love Violet as its my nan's middle name. Quite like Octavia.....but isnt that a Skoda car model name? Just a thought.

wantaholiday · 20/06/2013 21:42

I have an Octavia (middle name) I really liked Violet as well but DH didn't. I'm not sure I'd use them together.

Before DD was born we considered Octavia for the first name and batted it around amongst friends, but went for something else. After she was born (and named) a friend came up to me and said she was so glad we didn't call her Octavia, terrible name, they'll call her Occy like the thing darts players stand on. I then told her Octavia was the middle name Grin

bugsybill · 20/06/2013 22:40

Octavia is better as a middle name.

With violet I don't get the associations with just William or willy wonka at all. I just think of a flower/colour.
