Evelyn or Evie?

Me and DP have decided on a boys name, but for a girls name I prefer Evie but he prefers Evelyn with Evie as a nickname. what do you all prefer?

I like Evelyn and have the nickname Evie if you so wish. Mind you, you'll probably find a different nickname will make an appearance as your baby grws up!

My DD is an Evie, and we are often asked if it is short for Evelyn (which is isn't). There seem to be lots of Evie's about, but you don't often hear a parent shouting for an Evelyn across the park!

DP thinks Evie isn't an 'adult' name, but as you said there are a lot of Evies so surely it would be seen as adult by then, like Sophie and Katie and other 'ie' names are. Im not sure about calling her a name with the intention to shorten it (and I wouldn't like for it to be shortened to Lynn-have never been fond of that name)

Do you think Evie is ok as an adults nane?

Evie is nice as a nickname, but I'd use a longer full version such as Evelyn, Evelina or Genevieve. Or a shorter "full" version if you go for Eve, nickname Evie!

I like Evelyn with Evie as a nickname. I know a little girl with that exact name combo and I think it's lovely, both have a different sound and connotation which is nice.

I love Evie and DS would have been Evie had he been a girl. Dd due now but close fried of DH now has an Evie so we can't use it.

I'd go with Evie straight off rather than a longer version with Evie as a nickname as I don't think that you can guarantee what people will end up shortening a name to outside of your own home, or even inside it at times!

Yes it's popular but that's because it's lovely!Smile

Evie is a really popular baby name round here (I know two well - both are lovely).

I'd definitely go for Evelyn, and then call her Evie as a nickname. I think it gives her more options when she's older - Evie could sound a bit cutesy/fluffy for some walks of life (Justice Evie Smith, Evie Smith QC, vs Justice Evelyn Smith, Evelyn Smith QC) Not that I'm placing high expectations on your unborn DD, or course Grin

I have an Evie. We toyed with evangeline but Dh said we would only use it when she was naughty, which was a fair point. I don't think it's cutsie for an adult, and only know 1 other who is a few years older. Much of the time I call her eve anyway though! If she was bothered when she is older then she can use eve which is nice too. But I have no issue with Dr Evie Smith. I really dislike names ending in lyn, so Evelyn was never an option here.

I have an Evie - just Evie, not Evelyn. She loves her name. Yes it's popular, but the Evie's I know are lovely girls. Don't like 'lyn' type names.

Well my DD is Evie so I love it. But Evelyn is very pretty and there is nothing wrong with a good nickname.

Round here Evie is beyond popular, at one point I was beginning to think it was a compulsory name to give your DD.

Think I agree with your Dh but if one loves one name and one another, think I'd try to find another name that you both love Smile

Ohh, I really love Evie! Thinking about it if ours is a girl. I do worry it's too popular though. Annoyed I've loved it for years! I guess if I'm really set on it then so be it. Good luck with what you decide!

My mil is called Evelyn, Evie for short.

She is referred to as Evie by nearly everyone but is Evelyn professionally as she finds Evie juvenile. She also instructs you to call her Evelyn if she is cross with you because she says Evie is too friendly & it grates if you want to give someone a telling off Grin

It looks wonderfully put together & professional on correspondence too. You wouldn't muck around an Evelyn!

My sister and I have this argument (we are petty!) I like Evelyn and Eve and think evie should only be used as a nickname. I think as she gets older she would want something more grown up than Evie.

I really like Evangeline too.

I like both Evelyn and Evie, but know 3 baby Evelyns, all with Evie as a nn. What about something a little less common like Evangeline? Otherwise, she may have the same nursery school peg as a lot of other little girls.

Pronunciation of Evelyn is an issue, as a recent thread demonstrated. Ev-e-lin or Eva-Lynn (and then there are people ho claim it can be two syllables, Eve-Lynn, rather than with the slight third on in between). Complicated! Nice name though.
