Boys names similar to Miles?

Kittenkatzen · 29/05/2013 10:59

DC1 currently under construction and whilst we have a girls name agreed, we are really struggling to find boys names that we both love so I was hoping you lovely people might be able to provide some inspiration!

I love names like Felix, Milo and Dexter.....all vetoed by DH. The only name we have agreed on so far is Miles, but we don't think it's "the one" like our girls name was.

So - any suggestions for names in a similar vein to Miles? Surname is two syllables starting with N.

TIA! Smile

Forgot to say middle name will likely be Thomas (family name)

Guy seems to fit to me. Or Hugh, or Patrick.

Or kilometre -( for all you Apprentice fans out there!)

Moominsarehippos · 29/05/2013 11:02

Giles?

StellaNova · 29/05/2013 11:05

Ah, DH and I were trying to remember someone's name only yesterday who we thought was called Miles but wasn't, and we came up with a list of names we thought were like Miles, am trying to remember them now!

I think some were: Giles (!), Piers, Julian, Sebastian, Gerald

I offer no value judgements on any of those names, they were just the ones we thought of when trying to think of names like Miles!

SingleBelle · 29/05/2013 11:09

Giles! I like it. I know it wouldn't be for everybody though.
I like Piers and Julian too

StellaNova · 29/05/2013 11:12

Actually I like Giles too, I only put an exclamation mark because it rhymes. Grin

I have an old Playschool book about a little boy called Giles and his brother Rory who are playing explorers so I have always thought it was quite sweet.

BuntyPenfold · 29/05/2013 11:16

Giles
Piers
Marcus

TheBirdsFellDownToDingADong · 29/05/2013 11:17

Yeah, Giles, Guy, Hugh.

All those names that belong to 35 yr old bankers who wear beige macs.

I like Patrick though!

AprilFoolishness · 29/05/2013 11:18

Marcus
Guy
Zachary?

lollypopsicle · 29/05/2013 11:20

Nial?

flipflump · 29/05/2013 11:21

You like very similar names to me, so I'll add the others on my list -

Lucas
Rowan
Oscar
Rudy
Otto
Harris
Theo

My DH is a top 10 lover, think Harry, Jack, Oliver etc

Kittenkatzen · 29/05/2013 12:04

Grin at 35yr old bankers in macs! I think of Miles as more of a techy-geek name...

Thanks for the suggestions all....I really like Rory and Oscar so will run those past DH. Like Patrick too but not so keen on the inevitable shortenings...

Lots of what I would consider to be "posh" names being suggested (Guy, Piers, Hugh etc) which surprises me as I hadn't considered Miles in that group.

Funny so many of you mention Giles - DH suggested that yesterday and I made a ShockConfusedHmm face....think it crosses the geek/nerd line for me!

Guy, Hugh, Marcus, Giles, Piers. I like all of these! They do sound like they could be 35 year old bankers but in a way that just proves that the names have survived 3-4 decades. They don't sound like they were convicted of instigating football riots. Although, if I do go down this path, perhaps they sound like they take cocaine. I shall stop now.

I love patrick too, and i think that's more classic and safer than the above.

AprilFoolishness · 29/05/2013 12:39

I find this particularly funny as I know at least two people of that age, in that type of job, with names mentioned on this list! Grin

BlueChampagne · 29/05/2013 12:43

Arlo
Toby
Francis
Conrad
Laurence

ShadeofViolet · 29/05/2013 12:45

Lyle?

Kittenkatzen · 29/05/2013 13:08

april yes I work in a banking environment and there are loads of Guys, Hughs, Julian's etc (and mostly on the white stuff singlebelle!) ...no Miles' though!

Arlo and Toby have also been vetoed by DH sadly Sad

Not heard of Lyle before....don't think it would work with our surname though - the combination would be quite "L" heavy

OP posts:
Kickarsequeen · 29/05/2013 13:10

Nial ( pronounced Nile)

Ham69 · 29/05/2013 13:26

I like Felix, Milo and Dexter so, on that basis, I'll list other boy's names I also like;
Theodore
Laurence (Laurie)
Alistair
Benedict
Xavier
Hugo
Wilfred
Kit
Ned (though shame about Scottish meaning)
I do also like Miles.

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 29/05/2013 14:00

Was going to be bold and suggest Rollo but as you think it might be 'L' heavy to have a first name with more than one L plus surname, how about

Warwick
Tristan (okay maybe not)
Alex
Yannick

Littlecherublegs · 29/05/2013 14:14

My first thought was Piers actually! I'd go along with it being a 'posh / banker' type of name!!

Felix, Milo, and Dexter less so.... how about:

Spencer
Micah
Euan / Evan / Ivan / Ivor
Wyatt
Elijah
Maxwell
Cole
Fraser
Quinn
Caleb
Gabriel
Rowan
Seth
Silas
Nathaniel
Zachary
Fletcher
Amos
Harris / Harrison

Kittenkatzen · 29/05/2013 14:36

Ooh, Kit, Alex and Alistair all added to the list to show DH this eve, thanks so much for all the ideas! Smile

littlecherublegs I adore the name Silas but can never quite get the scary Da Vinci Code monk out of my head! Also really like Maxwell and Fraser from your list.

OP posts:
forgetmenots · 29/05/2013 14:55

Was going to say Toby and Arlo.

I love Miles and hate Giles, and my shortlist also had:

Magnus
Alasdair
Angus
Rory/Ruairidh
Lachlan
Struan
Fergus

Also love but couldn't have Jonah.

BlueChampagne · 29/05/2013 15:28

Leo(n)

StellaNova · 29/05/2013 17:38

Possibly the Miles/ posh association comes from This Life - wasn't the posh-boy lawyer called Miles?
