Boys names similar to Miles?

Kittenkatzen · 29/05/2013 10:59

DC1 currently under construction and whilst we have a girls name agreed, we are really struggling to find boys names that we both love so I was hoping you lovely people might be able to provide some inspiration!

I love names like Felix, Milo and Dexter.....all vetoed by DH. The only name we have agreed on so far is Miles, but we don't think it's "the one" like our girls name was.

So - any suggestions for names in a similar vein to Miles? Surname is two syllables starting with N.

TIA! Smile

The only Miles I know is a drug dealer currently working bars in Zante! I have a totally skewed view of this name!

Hello sept ladies! My cousin is Patrick, nn patch still, age 11. I've always loved it. Also, one of our neighbours has 3 sons: Miles, Louis and Oscar! So I've always viewed those names as similar in style...

Love the names on here - I literally had the exact same list as Readytosettle for DS. We called DS Laurie Grin

Alistair was a front runner and I still love this name. Also think of Louis and Leo in the same vein as Miles..

Matthew? I haven't heard that one for a while, and Matty is a cute nn.

Maybe another Apostle. Wouldn't got for any old testament names though...

I worked with loads of Patricks, Podrhaigs, Poricks (excuse the spellings!) But not a single Paddy. Irish establishment btw.

We were both quite keen on Elliot until DH heard it too many times as a surname & went off it. Prob with Barnaby is nn 'Barnes'- too posh according to DH. I think we may end up settling on Jasper with Jaz as the nn.

Patch is cute, the only Patrick I know is permanently landed with Paddy. His wife calls him Patrick or Pat, but friends aren't so easy to persuade!

Paxton, Elliot, Barnaby

Any ideas what the nn would be for Barnaby?

Sometimes- just sometimes - if he's very tired or sad I can get away with calling him Patch....

He's usually Patrick, though. Or PJ. Or Pat. But usually Patrick.

My ds was Patch- until he was old enough to express an opinion (sadly very young indeed). He was never Patch again Sad

I'd have campaigned for Alasdair except there are 2 in the family already.

Ali is fine for a boy as a nn for Alistair. I really like it. Know one in his 30s who is gorgeous! Oscar is so popular atm.

If you like Patrick I think you could quite easily avoid shortening it, especially as he gets older at work etc, but the little Patrick I know gets Patch, which just adorable!

Miles and Giles seem similar to me, although I prefer the latter as Miles is too much like Kilometres, at least in the UK....

I like Felix, Quentin, Sebastian and Alistair.

Milo is great. Definitely keep trying :)
Ali/Ally is the common nickname in Scotland certainly for Alistair/Alasdair.

We have a Leo in the family which rules that out unfortunately, along with Theo I guess as its v similar.

Oscar and Alistair are growing on me quite a bit - what do people think to Ali as a nn for Alistair? Too feminine?

Really wish I could convince DH on Milo Sad
