I'd say it can be either. But if I was using it for a boy id spell it Brody and use Brodie for a girl

ZolaBuddleia · 27/05/2013 12:32

Me too, Brodie for a girl, Brody for a boy.

Chottie · 27/05/2013 12:33

I think it is a unisex name too.

JojoMags · 27/05/2013 12:51

I would always think of it as a boys' name, with either spelling, and prefer Brodie to Brody. The latter looks too much like 'broody', and looks 'wrong' to me.

Lebkuchenlover · 27/05/2013 13:39

I know a male Brodie. To my ears Brodie/Brody is definately a boys' name.

daimbardiva · 27/05/2013 13:47

Boy. I've never heard of it for a girl.

MortifiedAdams · 27/05/2013 13:51

Both -ie for a girl, -y for a boy.

sjuperyoni · 27/05/2013 14:04

It's a boys name, i've never seen it for a girl. We considered brodie for ds but mymum kept saying bridie..

lollypopsicle · 27/05/2013 14:26

Unisex

HorryIsUpduffed · 27/05/2013 14:32

Boy, definitely.

I don't generally approve of surnames as first names for girls, but for boys and with Scottish surnames there is significant precedent and I get it.

Gugglebum · 27/05/2013 14:40

I'd assume it was a boy if I saw the name written down. I do prefer it with a 'y'.

HappyJustToBe · 27/05/2013 14:43

I prefer Brody and would assume it is a boys' name.

After some of the comments about DD's name when I was pregnant I would now always wait until baby is here and named before telling people. I was told the name we had chosen for DD was a stripper name...

Smilehappy · 27/05/2013 16:26

Thanks everyone, we won't be saying any more to family, I find it very rude for someone to share their dislike about your thought-about / chosen child's name... AngryConfused

And to be told its a strippers name is unbelievable!

My sister told me just to wait until baby is here and TELL them his name that way they don't get an opinion/option! SmileSmileSmileSmile

Sounds like a boys name to me.

DessieLou · 27/05/2013 19:40

I'd presume it was a boy too. I know a boy called Brodie but prefer Brody.

laravh · 27/05/2013 20:42

I live it for a girl (spelt Brodie) - there was a female character in Home and Awayages ago and I've loved it since. But I also know a Scottish family with a son called Brody and apparently it means brother.
Love it for either

Mellymog · 27/05/2013 20:59

boy - Patrick Swayze's character in point break?

BNmum · 27/05/2013 21:02

Boy

AllegraLilac · 27/05/2013 21:47

I'd go Brody for a boy (As in Jenner), and Bridie as a girly option.

iheartmycat · 27/05/2013 22:52

Brodie is a boys name - and means 'second son'

MoonHare · 27/05/2013 22:55

I definitely think of it as a boys name.

Think it was the name of Miranda's son in SATC.

MoonHare · 27/05/2013 22:55

Or maybe that was Brady.......

ShadowStorm · 27/05/2013 22:57

It sounds more like a boys name to me. But I wouldn't be entirely sure either way.

Onesleeptillwembley · 27/05/2013 23:01

I wasn't even aware it's a name. It truly is awful.

LynetteScavo · 27/05/2013 23:03

It's a boys name.
