My dog's called Ava but she's a very elegant, dignified old greyhound. DH and the DCs chose it and it does suit her.
There are quite a few little girls around here with the name which makes for lots of fun in the park when DD,3, yells, 'Ava's doing a POOOOO!'

A rather precocious girl with a gobby mother...but that's the worst thing about being a teacher-otherwise lovely names get ruined.
