Baby due in 9 days. No name but a sort of short list. Vote please!

This is our first boy and we are finding boys' names impossible. Things are made harder by the fact our DCs also want a say. Here is our short list with my thoughts:

Freddie (Frederick or Wilfred): a family name. DH and the kids like it, I'm worried its a bit comic.

Arthur: DH's fav. The nicknames of Artie and Art make me think of an ageing US door to door salesman. Also worried this is a very 2013 name.

Felix: my fav and the DCs love but DH says its wimpy. He also points out I shorten all names and there is no good nn for Felix.

Max (Maximillian): DCs' fav. I like. DH says its a dig's name.

Sacha (Alexander): I love, DCs cry at the thought as say its too feminine.

Jacob: safe, fine, nobody objects. I'm not terribly keen on Jake though.

in my very humble opinion go for Jacob with jac or jack as a nn, works all round

I like Freddie or Max best. :) I do like Alexander but not Sascha, sorry!

What are your other DC's names? (Feel free not to answer that if you don't want to!)

It is hard, isn't it? I'm due in a few weeks and we're pretty much settled on a name, but I keep having last minute "is it THE ONE" twinges.

Agree with Yank - Freddie or Max. I also love Alexander, but not Sacha. Could you shorten to Alex?

Freddie short for Frederick. He could then choose to be Fred when older.

Felix or Jacob for me. My dh would say Alexander (nn Alex though). I would say Max is fairly popular where I am, have heard a few Arthurs. Not come across many Freddies-more Charlie/Archies. Good luck in choosing-it's hard isn't it!

I can't really put my DD's names but they are short classic names that are used across all Latin based languages.

I'm not keen in Alex for personal association reasons, my horrid stepfather was Alex shortened to Al.

I'd not thought of shortening Jacob to Jack. I do like Jack but can't use on its own as its my cousin's name.

They're all great names. Alexander is a good strong name, would you consider shortening it to Xander? Not being rude I'm just not keen on Sacha but love Alexander.

Freddie is nice,I considered this name but was going to just have it on its own, not sure for anything

DH is an idiot. He says Max is a dog but doesn't notice that Felix is a cat?

Max! Sufficiently now without being too trendy. I also like Freddie.

Freddie is a name I would have loved to use, but not Frederick. Alfred was going to be my choice (then either Alfie or Freddie options).

Arthur - no.

Felix - DS2's middle name, love it.

Max - it's ok.

Sacha (for Alexander) - what about Zander, if you don't like Alex as a nn? Sacha has kind of been commandeered by the female population more these days (and who has heard of Sacha Distel now?)

Jacob - just far far too many of these around. Far too many.

We have a Maximilian, I have yet to meet another. Is cool name in his opinion too.

Felix was another of our choices when we were naming him but thought it bit wimpy.

Jacob and Jake I just don't like.

If you call kid Alfred be careful not called Alfie and Wilfred not Wilf. Won't automatically be called Freddie !!

Sacha is in our list for this DC but I am concerned a bit feminine.

Oh and one of the above is our dogs name!

I like Wilfred. It allows you to use Freddie now but also enables other names later in life.
I do like Sascha but think that your negative association with Alex means that, if you use it, you should not use Alexander as the official name. School friends may well see that his 'real' name is Alexander and nickname him accordingly. Your son could also choose to go by Alex or All as an adult.

Arthur or max

To me Sacha is just not a feminine name. I guess that's because I've spent time in Eastern Europe. But even here the only Sacha I can think of is Sacha Baron Cohen who is, obviously, a man. I am beginning to appreciate I'm in a minority on this one.

I would have Fred, not Frederick.

Max - I love, DH is a PITA claming its a dogs name, its hardly Rover.

Sacha is a girls name round my way, and her siblings would be Kaden, Jayden and Rhianna.

Jacob is Twilight, to me, the crappest movie on eartH, so that would put me off.

Dont like Felix. Arthur is too 'lets be quirky' - and over used.

I like Jacob and max. Also Alexander, but wouldn't use it in your circumstances.

Freddie (Frederick or Wilfred): ten a penny around here. Too cute for my tastes

Felix: also good

Max (Maximillian): also v common around here

Sacha (Alexander): nice but Alex/Alexander dull

Alexander (tho if you don't like Alex you're best just calling him Sacha as others will shorten it)

Iv got a Jacob, he gets called Jacob, I don't like jake either and thats not his Name so people often get corrected.

He rarely gets 'jakey' still not keen

Im due in 2 weeks with no 4 (our second boy), so too are trying to shortlist names. I'll add ours at the end if you like...

Firstly, input from DC's is fine, but I wouldn't want them involved in the actual decision process.

Maxim is one of my favourites from your list. I don't get DH's dog association with Max btw... Milo, Rufus I get, but not Max.

I think important factors to think about is your surname and how it goes with your shortlist... One syllable, two syllable.

I really don't like Sasha I'm afraid.. Feminine name here and like someone else said above, siblings would be Kaden, Jayden and Rhianna.

My DH loves Jacob/Jake.. I like it, but it's soooooooo done to death here... And Oscar and Freddie, although they're lovely names.

Freddie (Frederick or Wilfred): I love this name, it is in our family too, and I would have chosen it if DD had been a DS!

Arthur: Agree with you on this one, plus couldn't see a baby as an Arthur.

Max (Maximillian): Also love this name - strong and good at any age.

Sacha (Alexander): Love Alexander, but the DCs are right, Sacha is feminine. Xander is fab though!

Jacob: agree it's a safe option, but not as interesting as other options.

I like Frederick best. Not at all keen on Wilfred. It does sound comical. Frederick could be a European Prince. Wilfred sounds daft. London parents tryingt o be 'out there'.

Arthur. Omg, refer back to london mc parents trying to be out there.

Max. classic, what can you say. good strong name. like jack though - too popular really.

Sacha - I like it.

Jacob - like it. same as Max/Jack. Good name though.

I'd go for Freddie/Frederick or Sacha/Alexander

Tell your kids to name their teddies

I was at school with a male Sacha, so I've been programmed early to think 'boy'. if it's with a c, I'd assume boy. Sasha with an S, I'd assume girl.
