Holliday for a girl

I am pregnant with dc4, saw an article about Holliday Grainger in a magazine the other day and thought she had a lovely name, what do you all think is it cheesy and naff or nice?

I have no idea who Holliday Grainger is. It's a weird choice, but not unpleasant on the ear. I wouldn't do it, but I don't hate it. If she is someone who is big at the moment then you can expect it to become quite a fad which will date very quickly, like Kylie, Miley, Demi etc.

OK, just googled her. The more I say it in my head the prettier it sounds, and now I've seen she's English and not American I think I approve. Grin

It's less likely to be adopted en masse by unsuitable types. Wink

She's a bit of an up & coming British actress but not a "star" she's in the Borgias, she's a bit posh and very beautiful

You will have to prepare her for a lifetime if smart quips like "Holliday, where are you going for your holidays?'
and people humming the Cliff Richards summer holidays song in her presence. Are you sure that Holliday is her proper name & not a stage name adopted for effect?

Holly Golightly character in Breakfast at Tiffany's is short for Holiday Golightly Smile (one "L" BTW)

I don't think it really matters whether Holliday is the actress' proper name or adopted for effect. I think it's pleasant on the ears (love that phrase!) and nicely unusual. Does sound a little bit American.

It's a bit frivolous. I wouldn't like to be called Holliday, but then I'm a bit of a serious kind of person so I like stronger, more serious names. If your dd is likely to inherit lots of fun and bubbly genes she might carry it off, but it's a risk.

She could never be a goth, that's for certain!

My first though was "where to?"Grin
I actually like it but do think you need the right surname to carry it off. It will almost certainly be shortened to Holli/y but that's a lovely name so it's all good.

I actually like it! I tend to only like traditional names but with the right surname, Holliday sounds lovely.

I always like the sound of the actress Honeysuckle Weekes. Such a pretty sounding word and it conjures up a lovely image. I think Holliday does the same.

I quite like it, but she would get "where are you going on Holliday?" A LOT as a kid. Tbh though I got constant stick about my surname as a teen, and, although it irritated me, kids will always find something to pick on!

TheReal, I went to uni at the same time as Honeysuckle Weeks (different colleges) and once had a tutorial with her. I didn't say anything at all for the whole hour, just kept gawping at my tutor and mouthing "it's Honeysuckle Weeks!". Needless to say, I was not put with her again. I've always thought it's a lovely name, but a bit out of left-field for me.

Possibly open to seedy one-liners along the lines of "we're all going on Holliday" when she's older...personally I wouldn't use it. Have it as a middle name if you really want it.

It's a pretty name but not right for a prime minister. And a name should always work for a prime minister (as well as cute baby).

It's lovely. I think it's ridiculous to worry that whatever you name your child will hinder them professionally in the future. I have never in my whole working life thought oh dear that's an unprofessional name. If anything, if I were hiring someone and saw a CV for someone called Holliday Smith I would think they sounded intriguing.

She could always go as Hollie/Holly if it caused problems when she's older. Holly would be fine for PM/high court judge etc.
