I'm really trying to love it too as I pretty much forced my favourite name on him for our first son.

Reason I am a bit unsure is I think it sounds a bit nicknamey?

Can I have your thoughts please?

How about Tyler as his name?

thermalsinapril · 16/04/2013 09:29

Agree it would be best as a nickname, most obviously for a name starting in Ty (Tyson), but maybe you could get away with one ending in Ty (Monty) or starting with T and ending in y (Timothy).

Monty
Rafferty
Timothy
Tyson
Tyrus
Tyrone

WizardofOs · 16/04/2013 09:36

I know a girl called it but spelt Tai.

UpTheFRIGGinDuff · 16/04/2013 10:15

Ty is a brand of soft toy.

thermals suggestion of having it as a nickname is a good idea.

GiveMeVegemite · 16/04/2013 10:18

Hrm... I don't think we could have it as a nickname, I just wanted to know whether you ladies thought it could be a name on its own.

I knew a Ty, that was his full name. Didn't think too highly of him but the name in itself works IMO.

GiveMeVegemite · 16/04/2013 10:36

Thanks meerkat I'm hoping to get some positive responses as I really am trying to like it!

Ty was what my mum and stepdad wanted to call my little brother. I like it

MooMe · 16/04/2013 11:11

I personally like it, a lot.

orangepudding · 16/04/2013 11:13

I don't like it as a first name at all. Would be okay as a nickname.

kasbah72 · 16/04/2013 11:15

Makes me think of Ty Pennington from Extreme Home Makeover.

Cool guy but his 'Ty' is a nickname...

cryhavoc · 16/04/2013 11:20

I know a four year old whose full name is Ty. It suits him.

KittenOfDoom · 16/04/2013 11:23

What about Tadhg?

ComtesseDeSpair · 16/04/2013 11:34

I quite like it. I went to university with a Ty. Nice bloke, but was endlessly asked what Ty was short for or having people assume his full name was Tyler or Tyrone. I think it's unavoidable.

Really like the suggestion of Tadhg, though.

GiveMeVegemite · 16/04/2013 11:35

I Love Ty Pennington! But his full name is Tygert....Not great in my opinion! Ty definately suits him better :)

It's growing on me! Thanks ladies.

Was going to call my DD Tai, ended up calling her Tyla. Always planned on Ty being nickname, but it never took, she is just Tyla.

kitten I have never heard of tadhg, how do you pronounce it? Is it like Ty or like tyg?

OP posts:
KittenOfDoom · 16/04/2013 20:48

It's Irish ... It's sort of like tige as in tiger, but the g is very soft at the end, so it's quite close to Ty.

RandomMess · 16/04/2013 20:50

I know a boy Tai, works just fine

toomuch2young · 16/04/2013 20:51

I know a Tyrone who is Ty and a Tyrese who is not abbreviated, but the name could be easily.
I think Ty does tend to appear a little nick namey but no reason why not, though yes lots of staffies do tend to be Tyson/ Ty at the minute!

ThePathanKhansAmnesiac · 16/04/2013 20:53

Yy to Tadhg, lovely name.

MonsterBookOfTysons · 16/04/2013 20:54

Ooh im referred to as Ty due to my nickname on here. It works quite well although Tyson was my dog :o
I like Tyler.

MrsBungle · 16/04/2013 20:57

I know a lovely man called Tye but his full name is Tyehimba.

DD has a friend at nursery called Tyrese who she calles Tye.

KittenOfDoom · 16/04/2013 21:00

I wondered about the US actor Ty Hardin, but it turns out that his real name is ....

Orison Whipple Hungerford, Jr.

A name to conjure with.
