Karen is one of the prettier names of that time, has a nice sound to it. May be biased as I know a lovely Karen!

usualsuspect · 13/04/2013 10:33

Yes, Deskplanner.

DDs name is on here. Grin

MsNobodyAgain · 13/04/2013 10:34

Jasper is a lovely name.

x2boys · 13/04/2013 10:35

sorry chicken salad but i,m late 30,s and went to school with loads of karens also a very dear friend of mine is called karen and will be 50 in january?!

PoshCat · 13/04/2013 10:36

I work in a school (with kids 3-5 yrs) and we have a Joanne, Tina, Joyce and Leslie. Can't say I'm keen on the last two much.

DeskPlanner · 13/04/2013 10:37

Snob Congratulations. Jasper is one of the loveliest names ever. It's adorable.

Usual, Hmm, Claire, Susan ?

usualsuspect · 13/04/2013 10:38

Nope, mind you she is 30 so shes allowed to have a dated name Grin

DeskPlanner · 13/04/2013 10:39

Posh Is Leslie a girl or a boy ? I think I slightly prefer it for a girls name than a boys.

CwtchesAndCuddles · 13/04/2013 10:40

I've been doing a lot of work on my family tree - some of the girls names that keep recurring over the generations are
Sarah
Margaret
Elizabeth
Alice

My dd is Sarah and is amazed how many of times her name comes up in our family tree.

thermalsinapril · 13/04/2013 10:42

The names from a couple of generations ago, like Arthur, Eric, Edith and Elsie, are all back in fashion. So I reckon 50s/60s/70s names will come around again next!

FanjolinaJolie · 13/04/2013 10:43

Can't wait for someone I know to have a baby Mark, Simon or Richard

DeskPlanner · 13/04/2013 10:43

Well usual, I'm sure its a lovely name. I'm the same age as your dd and have a middle name I hate. Totally dates the decade I was born.

I know a 6 year old called Kevin.

usualsuspect · 13/04/2013 10:44

I still love her name TBH.

mrsjay · 13/04/2013 10:45

I know a little baby Mark but I think it is his dads name, boys seem to have more 'dated' names than girls a lot of boys are named after male family members

mrsjay · 13/04/2013 10:46

i love My dds names dd1 is on here I still like it as a name it doesn't seem dated to me but people don't like it nowadays

HollyBerryBush · 13/04/2013 10:47

Leslie = boy
Lesley = girl

marriedinwhiteagain · 13/04/2013 10:47

Dated: Karen, Tracey, Debbie, Sharon, Kylie, Julie, Susan, Denise, Kim, Joyce, Tiffany, Roy, Warren, Darren, Nigel, Gary, Shane, Paul, Joshua, (and will be joined by Chelsea, Jaydon, Brittany, etc).

Classic: Deborah, Julia, Juliette, Susannah, Joy, Sarah, Rebecca, Alice, Louise, Arthur, Edward, Thomas, William, Michael, Mark, Jeremy, Julian, etc.

Some make come backs some do not. Some were just too much of their time.

x2boys · 13/04/2013 10:48

funny is nt it how some names never go out of fashion whilst others dissappear i went to school in the 80,s with a grace it was considered really old fashioned then but very popular now!

nellyjelly · 13/04/2013 10:48

I had an aunt called Dolly!

Other names from the 60s and 70s are ; Anne, Christine, Alison, Carol, Jacqueline, Pamela, Louise, Maureen, Joanne, Michelle, Patricia, Julie, Anita, Kerry, Helen.

Philip, David, Colin, Martin, Gordon, Scott, Peter.

All due a revival surely!

gabsid · 13/04/2013 10:51

mrsjay - and I then taught all those Jasons and Kylies 10 years later in secondary school!

DeskPlanner · 13/04/2013 10:52

Sorry Usual, I wasn't suggesting for a moment you didn't like your dds name. I like most of the girls names on here tbh, apart from Beverly very much now thinking Usuals dd is bound to be Beverly. I was just saying that I didn't like my middle name, that I don't even think is on here. Sorry if I offended. Thanks

Now off to check if my middle name is on here.

HollyBerryBush · 13/04/2013 10:53

Late 40's - Caroline - every other girl was Caroline. 7 of them in my class, a Carolyn and 2 Karens. You can tell what the popular radio station of the time was!

Julie, lots of Julies; Susan, Deborah, Tracey and Sharon were also very popular.

Bloke my are always John, Dave, Paul, Steven (with the v not the ph), Gary and the odd Wayne thrown in.

AmberSocks · 13/04/2013 10:53

i dont like those kids of names,i thik they were left in the 70s and 80s for a reason.

gabsid · 13/04/2013 10:53

8 years ago a friend called her DD Edith. I wasn't sure about the name then but now I like it. I think your own few and tastes change as well with your own experiences and the world around you.

mrsjay · 13/04/2013 10:54

mrsjay - and I then taught all those Jasons and Kylies 10 years later in secondary school!
