Still not settled on names and due any moment- don't know what flavour. Trying for traditional Scottish names that are not too popular, but not to far out, and work well outside of Scotland.

Girls names we find easier and the shortlist is only:

  • Flora
  • Ishbel

Boys, we are still struggling a bit- like lots of names but not sure we LOVE them. The shortlist is:

  • Ranald (current forerunner)
  • Archie (possibly too popular both south and north of the border)
  • Hamish (stupidly tried this on 3 Scottish male friends some months ago- think they are still rolling round the floor laughing Confused)
  • Murdo
  • Cameron (not sure about surnames as first names)

So, what d'ya reckon???

Love Ishbel and Ranald. Also love Hamish but seems like the reaction wasn't great :o

pictish · 11/04/2013 18:49

Flora was my mother's name. I love it.

Out of the boy's names I like Hamish the best...I know a couple of Hamishes, and our ds1 would have been one were it not for the fact that one of them is already in the family.

My least fave is Cameron as round here (Edinburgh and Lothians) it's a (sorry to say it) chavvy name.

Cameron will always be found getting up to no good with Jayden and Kyle.

MissAnnersley · 11/04/2013 18:49

I love Ishbel and Ranald too.

I think Hamish is a lovely name - I know two in RL, both Scottish.

Geordieminx · 11/04/2013 18:51

What about Fraser? Or Euan? Or Struan?

Love Ishbel... I was going to be a Flora.. 6 months later the margarine came out... I'm glad I'm not a Flora.

Heather?

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 11/04/2013 18:55

Ishbel is gorgeous. Can't tell you how much I love it! :)

The boys' names aren't doing much for me, sorry. I like Cameron but not whilst that idiot is PM.

StrangeGlue · 11/04/2013 18:56

Flora, ranald and hamish

Ishbel is unusual but has that forever spelling it out and still getting Isabel on paperwork etc problem

FriggFRIGG · 11/04/2013 19:01

Ishbel and Hamish are my favourite by far.

Please not Murdo...all I hear is murder...

Kittykatmacbill · 11/04/2013 19:23

Love ishbel and hamish, archie is cute but archibald is nice too.

What about Fraser?

shellyf · 11/04/2013 20:14

Flora and Hamish or Hector

mum47 · 11/04/2013 20:16

Love Flora. DS has a friend called Hamish, he is a lovely, cheeky boy and I love his name.

dubai71 · 11/04/2013 21:17

Thank you very much ladies. Was going slightly mad just saying the names to ourselves so really helpful to get your input. Am pleased to see Ranald seems to have gone down well. Pictish- love your comments Grin, Cameron now firmly off the shortlist! Kitty & Geordie- I also like Fraser but cannot use it as a first name for family reasons. Thanks again!

How about Ailsa?

picnicbasketcase · 11/04/2013 21:30

I like Flora, Archie and Hamish.

forgetmenots · 11/04/2013 22:57

I'm using Angus and I like a lot of your names, Ishbel is lovely :) I also like Eilish (as opposed to Eilidh).

Love Archie, Hamish and Murdo. Not keen on Cameron or Ranald.

I also had Magnus, Struan, Ruairidh and Lachlan on my lists if that helps :)

Noggie · 11/04/2013 23:12

Love your names- ESP like Ranald and flora Grin

LoganMummy · 11/04/2013 23:14

Love Ruaridh, Archie, Lachlan and Logan.

I used to love Cameron but I can't stand Cammy so that's a no.

thistlelicker · 11/04/2013 23:23

My
Dog is Hamish

DessieLou · 11/04/2013 23:29

Ishbel is nice but not keen on flora, I'm afraid. I like Cameron from your boys list but had no idea it is considered chavvy in some parts. How about Fifer instead?

DessieLou · 11/04/2013 23:30

Or Brodie? I know a very cute wee Brodie!

pinkr · 12/04/2013 23:06

If our wee one was a boy the name was Fergus!

forgetmenots · 12/04/2013 23:10

Love it pinkr, on my list :)

Blondie1984 · 12/04/2013 23:20

If I ever have a little girl I will call her Iona

pinkr · 13/04/2013 02:52

Fergus is traditional but under used and the only boy name we could agree one! Grin

thistlelicker · 13/04/2013 04:24

Has anyone mentioned mhairi ? Spelling prob wrong

raisah · 13/04/2013 04:29
